Not your typical twitter post here. I'm just more curious what people think of this now. Even though things still are hush-hush until it is done, it seems more riders make their announcement via twitter. Then the official one comes out down the road. I'm not talking about Reed's fishing but for instance Stroupe confirms Valli, Burner BBMX while official releases have yet to hit.

What do you guys think about this trend? For me, straight from the horses mouth is great.

All social media is absolutely blowing up as a marketing tool. Every pro rider should be attached to that shit, especially since you can just update it from your phone now. Get off a moto, tweet a little something, maybe make a nice viral video, anything to keep your name out there.

I think it's cool, but it also find it funny how some people swallow any bait tossed into the water as well.

I have enjoyed reading some of the riders twits, Cairoli's is pretty cool seeing him chatting up with a few of the riders over here http://twitter.com/Antoniocairoli
What's impressive is he writes his tweets in english, smart guy, push for the American crowd, when you know you're coming over. Twitter is a great marketing tool, TWMX, RacerX all of them use it, can't go wrong promoting yourself with Facebook & Twitter.

Social Media is something I've been doing for a while now and it's definitely a heavy interest for businesses and athletes alike.

Speaking of which, have you guys checked out IMS Products on Facebook and Twitter?

I think I'm more of a fan of Facebook. Writing in such short tweets doesn't always allow you to get your message across clearly.

I'd say take that back even a few steps further. Most of the riders have their own websites, why not the occasional blog entry instead of having opinions filtered through stiff press releases and droll tweets?

Nothing against Twitter, it just leaves a lot to be desired.

I would assume most riders don't like writing long messages?

They would rather write something in 150 characters(from their phone) that would be seen by more people than spend an hour or more writing something that fewer people would see or read?

Guys...it's simple - with enough people following your 'tweets' (can't tell you the exact number) a rider/celeb will eventually become viable enough to start earning revenue for each individual tweet he or she sends out to the masses...get paid to fish, call it what you want (a couple cents a tweet adds up yo!) but a crafty agent in the mx industry would be remiss if he/she didn't explore this possibility...& if u didn't know...now you know! That's probably the case but I think the majority of them could spare a paragraph or two every couple weeks during a season.
