From what parents tell me, it's best not to get one. There is always some reason it won't work. I was talking with a dad about buying one (we were at the SW LL Regional) he said everyone he knows who has bought one regrets it.

Not sure what you are talking about there......but that is BS

The WEER Transponder system is used by Trackside systems which is what is used at most tracks.
We use them at Winchester Speedpark, NESC uses that system and it is also used at LL's and all the qualifiers as well as Whitney, Mini O's etc......

We purchased one two years ago and it has never had an issue.
Before that we had one of the smaller boot transponders and that was no problem either.

Most of the time when people claim it won't work it is because they forgot to charge it or left it on the bike for days on end and it didn't go into sleep mode because of the motion.

Even if you do forget to charge it before race day you can pop it on the charger in the truck and after about 30-40 minutes it is good for the day.

I bought one 2 years ago for GNCC racing, never took it off the bike for those 2 years and never charged it. It worked every lap until the 2 years (recommended time) was up.

Wow that is some long life.

I usually only need to charge my son's once a month and then just make sure I put it in the holding cradle when we aren't using it and it keeps the charge no problem.

Trackside just rocks for the racers and the people working at the track.

Announcing during a mud race used to suck now I still know who is where and the gaps etc.... scoring is much more accurate for those close finishes.
Plus there is no better way to chart your progress during the year than the laptimes you can pull of the Trackside system.

Make sure you use one that's compatible with the system your local tracks use. Around here we use the AMB-IT system and it works great. Riders can buy their transponder or use one that's lent to them at the races. We had a mud race last Sunday and the system worked flawlessly.

Oh wait the OTHG (Over the Hill Gang) just bought a transponder set, it's reasonable too, the program and hardware is about 2k but the best part are the transponders are $1.00 and $3.00 and they work great. I'll find out the name and let you know, I think more tracks will start using it because the price is right, the other company's are charging too much ! I'll post it when I find the email I received on it.

Here you go...

motosponder.com The really cool thing is no charging of batteries required for this system, and the transponder strips are really inexpensive (they have two grades, the most expensive which is $3, with the basic
at $1).

Check it out and send an email to all your local tracks to check it out. I have nothing to do with the company, not do I get anything out of it, just think it's great for promoters and racers cause it's a good program and it's inexpensive to boot.
