Surprise! MX Sports nor the AMA pay a single dollar to the $64,000 pro purse! The fastest 80 men in the world share $64,000 to risk their lives and permanent injury! That is about $800.00 each if divided evenly.

Wow we have come a long way after 40 years of motocross history, we should all be so proud Smile

Yes, there is a point. Sx/MX riders are SERIOUSLY underpaid! Forget the "stars"; it's a SAD FACT that those from 15th back get very little money for what they do. Anyone that argues that fact or complains that it's justified is simply high!!!

i second that...mxsports is getting the talent to put on a show for free, and reaping the rewards from the people that watch the show, without sharing the wealth.

why are you trying to deflect from the original posters topic? some people would call that hijacking the thread? everytime this topic is brought up somebody hijacks or deletes it. wonder why that is? i think its because everybody is scared of telling the truth about the way the riders are treated by mxsports and everybody else involved in the sport.

we will see how long this thread lasts..

I wish moto was like the PGA tour... Go back 247 spots to find the poor guy not making 6 figures!

http://espn.go.com/golf/moneylist/_/page/5/year/2011

But they are 2 very different things.... there's probably costs tied up in putting the events on that I could never imagine standing from the fence.

Purse money per event is always pathetic in motorsports. I do however think the lack of rider insurance paid for by the AMA/ MX Sports is absolutely unacceptable. I do understand the costs are very high putting on these events, but one would think taking care of your bread and butter would be a priority, not an afterthought.

Why would they divide the pure evenly ? The riders are not equal , some are way faster than others and they look like they are making great money.

there is money being made in moto, the riders just aint making it...example,each team that pulls a big rig into the pits pays mxsports $7000 per rig per year and the riders pay $225 to race per event. now here is a interesting question..do you pay to go to work or do you get paid to work?

They have a choice? Like get another job? If it's what you do, and you don't want to settle for a "regular job" then you make sacrifices and do what you "love". But you have to remember.....these guys are entertainers, they should not have to pay to entertain you, no more than Robert DeNiro should have to pay for your movie ticket. Name one other sport (job) where it costs the main attraction money to perform. Not even taking into consideration the danger factor.

Why? Because I have a pretty solid idea who posted it (actually someone I like and respect), and there's a tiny bit more back story to the whole deal. I generally peek at first-time posters who "step in it" on their first post or two to check IDs. There are some people who are professional fecal-disturbers, and I wanted to make sure this wasn't one of them.

As for the purse, I think everyone wants to see the riders make more money. But as an example, the crowd at Steel City was down by (I'm guessing here) at least 25% from the year before (darn football).

Comparing purses in NASCAR or other pro sports to MX? One of the big things you need to consider is, are you being paid big money for your TV rights like NASCAR? That's a huge source of revenue that MX doesn't enjoy.

I think you're missing the ball on why threads like this don't last long. It's not being scared, or because there's some big spooky conspiracy. It's that some of the opinions are so misguided or far-fetched that they peg the painfully unrealistic meter, and some of them are almost embarrassing to read.

So....in the meantime MXSports has to pocket the majority of the revenue there is? It would be interesting in comparing the P/L statements of mxsports and the 15-40 riders combined.

I know, I guess that pegs the "painfully unrealistic meter".

What business is it of yours, exactly how much MXSports "pockets"....?

If they are making so much money, and it's that easy, start your own series! Then you can pay the riders what they 'deserve'....

That would be Huck's responce to anyone who disliked their job, or factors within it... It has been his answer for several years now, never a person with solutions to problems, simply a person outside looking in and always the same suggestion. Its all so simple I guess...

Dont like being a Doctor, find another job! Forget about the $100,000.00's it cast you or the 8-12 years of your college life, go be a deli slicer...

Dont like being a MX'er, forget about the ton of money your parents spent helping you fulfill your dream job or the 15+ years you have dedicated to the sport, quit and go get a job serving fast food.....

I'm sure he has all the answers, guess we just have to ask.
