I hadn't planned on joining the helmet cam community, but then a brand new Sony Action Cam was basically given to me so I thought I might as well try it out. I haven't used it yet and I wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with this particular camera. I guess my main question is in regards to the mounting. Is that tape that secures the mounting plate to the helmet really strong enough to hold that damn camera on without it eventually falling off? That's putting a lot of faith into some double sided tape. Is there a more ideal place to mount that specific camera?

The one from the ContourHD is really strong. I can hardly get it off my helmet once i applied it.

I just recently joined the helmetcam community. After beeing nagged by my son to get one for ages I finally broke down and bought a GoPro Hero3+ Silver. I was looking at the more affordable Sony and Contour beforehand but after seeing what is the most commonly used I went with GoPro. Torco, please let us know how it works out because it seems like a very reasonably priced alternative. Since getting ours I've become hooked on trying to make cool videos... it's kind of becoming an addiction. haha.

On topic of adhesive, my son took a digger in some whoops and landed directly on the top of his lid right where the GoPro mounts. Amazingly it didn't come off, just turned the camera straight down. The 3M VHB adhesive they use (hopefully Sony uses the same thing) works unbelievably well, I was amazed.
