Any of you guys ridden it?

A buddy of mine signed me up, and I'd kind of like to know what I'm getting in to...

You know, I probably shouldn't go there, but...

I went to the Soboba GP once as a kid, and I thought it was among the coolest races I'd ever seen. Looooong sections of sand whoops. Steep uphills and downhills.

But, having said that...after the MXoN debacle on the reservation? I swore I'd never have anything to do with that area again.

The MXdN debacle was due to the people running the show not the area. Soboba has been going strong for many years now and is probably one of the funnest "organized" rides you will ever do.

I have done it several times. The second loop wil seperate the men from the boys. If it is raining or has been raining around the ride date make sure you and your bike are water proof (Lot's of opportunities to submarine)

Riding with friends and creating more BS bench racing stories is what this event is all about. Seeing Malcom Smith at the event and saying you rode with a true American legend is part of the experience too.

I would make sure and do this event at least once, that's for sure...

Good Luck!

Its one of those rides I want to do. The amount of people that show up has shy me away. Just like the Race around the Lake at Castaic, I still want to try it.

Thanks guys.

I'm looking forward to it, but apprehensively.

I understand each loop is around thirty miles.

I hope there's a decent break in between.Dizzy

I've raced the Soboba GPs on several ocasions.
Love the area...

You just have to follow the rules. I've never done the recent invitational thing, I think it falls on one of my race week ends.
You will love riding there.

It all depends on the weather. I've ridden it when it was dry, when it was a mudfest, and when there was epic conditions. Obviously, I would definitely go if it had rained a few days before.

One year, there were perfect conditions. My bike was down, so I borrowed a 125. I had a blast!!! I never really rode a 125 much, but it made me feel like a hero pinning it everywhere. I spent most of the ride, riding with Troy Lee and Scott Russell. Good times!!

Another year, it rained days before and kept raining on the day of the event. It was a mess, but it was still fun. They shortened it down to one loop, because of all of the carnage around the trails. I never saw so many guys running out of gas, and that was on a 30 mile loop! I made it about two miles short before I too ran out of gas.

Second thought, do it no matter what the conditions are.

I raced the Soboba GP a few times and actually won the last one they had. I remember it was absolutely one of the funnest races ever...but pretty gnarly, too! They ran us down some of the creek beds and we were hydroplaning on the water, then hitting the sand bars tapped out in 6th!

Not sure about the invitational, but I'm gonna try to scare up an invite!

Maybe I'll see you there!

I remember the river beds...I also remember some of the knarliest down hills ever. My first GP there was (I think) 1973.

Malcolm Smith won it, Larry Roeseler , was second...They battled the entire race. Spoke to Malcolm about that race a couple weeks ago. His reply was, in those days, L.R. raced every week, and he (Malcolm) raced a couple times a year.

I was on a TT500

Thanks for all the info, guys.

Sounds like I'm in for a good time.

It also sounds like I'd better start hitting the gym a little more often...
