Anderson did a practice start, and when he looked up, he was right behind Sipes and they collided

Sipes was slowing down in the first turn, looking around for lines, and Anderson came off the gate wide-open, doing a practice start. He was still flying when he got close to the first turn and when Sipes turned in a little to his left Jason drilled him from the back rear. It was a strange, unfortunate accident.

After the race I saw Sipes on the back of the Asterisk Medics Mule being taken over to the rig for X-rays.

Unfortunate accident is the best description here as DC said. It wasn't a bone head move by Anderson...he was practicing a start. He didn't know Sipes would turn into him at the last second....Sipes didn't know 44 was doing a practice start and didn't see him. Classic case of:

yeah it was silly, but to his defense, Sipes had taken off way before him. Sipes crawled into the corner.

just a "Shit Happens" deal.

regarding the race, Anderson killed it in the main event. awesome race, finally that kid lives up to his early hype

I think they both are a bit to blame.
I remember a similar incident happened at Daytona 4 or 5 years ago. I think that was Wharton and Hahn? maybe. Regardless, it could've been prevented, but wasn't.
