Give Davey Coombs some credit for honesty and fine journalism. Let’s say you read your local news and found that a former pro MX’er was busted for murder (hypo). Then you fire up the laptop, bounce to Racer X online for finer details, and not one word is mentioned about the incident. What would you think? Someone is sleeping at the wheel? Or, the MX media is a whitewashing joke? No, it’s always in Racerhead, respectful and truthful. If they get whiny messages about having a golf tidbit, I can imagine the crap the get from a fan of a rider in the hot seat.

Truth is, MX is the greatest sport ever with some of the most incredible athletes alive. Like every other sport, it has people who make human mistakes and unfortunately it also has some downright bad apples. Coombs did a great job respecting the recently deceased Cinqmars in his most recent Racerhead column, as he did with Mike Healy during his indiscretion. I also believe that much of the MX media has done a great job of keeping a lid on some of the less publicized arrests of the MX world, never aiming at tarnishing a person’s reputation, even when a racer deserves the tarnishing. In reality, there are people in MX/FMX that are more like gangsta rappers than Carmichael and Stewart. The Superior Court of California, County of (pick one), (online case info section) would surprise people for sure.

I for one look forward to the online Racerhead every week. It’s informative and never leaves me feeling that the writer had an axe to grind.
