Is it just me and 90% of the Pros and Cooper Webb that think these are both a joke? Are are we all wrong?

Yes, you are all wrong.

If other guys can manage in way bigger sports with a shit ton more questions than Cooper or anyone else gets, the moto guys can too.

Part of his obligations that come with the profession he chose.

The question wasn't if they should do it, it was, are they a joke?

They don't ask real questions and no one gives real answers. Such a waste of time!

What "press" comes from an event that doesn't have "press", doesn't ask real questions out of fear of losing their photography jacket, and doesn't get any real answers?

Where is all this press coverage at? Wall Street Journal? I haven't seen it anywhere!

500guy, what is your real opinion about these pressers? Or what is the riders opinions as you know it?

I don't pay attention to them, I don't have an opinion except I think people go to a lot of trouble to do them so they must see some value in it.

I personally find a lot of value in them as a quote on quote press guy. The day flies by so fast outdoors, and it's really tough to get the top guys for comments after the race and the press conference is a professional setting to get your questions in. I don't blame them after racing all day, but it's also tough because riders bail to their hotel as quick as they can. If the 250's are first, the only way to interview the 250 riders is to miss the 450 race and go running around the pits to find guys before they bail. If you're a one man team covering the event, it's tough.

Also, for guys like Matthes that know everyone, it may be easier than for say the guy from the local paper to get to a top rider after the race. The press conference gives them and everyone else easy access to the riders the press want to talk to.

To those that don't know, they are done well. The top three from both classes go up to a podium one at a time and generally there's one-two questions from the track announcer--Lurch, Greg White or whoever is announcing. After that the floor is open to the press to ask whatever's on their mind. Usually 4-5 questions tops. There isn't video coverage, but you all read the Q&A in interviews posted all over the web. Racer X, MotoXaddicts and a lot of other sites and local papers use the quotes in articles or full on interview posts.

If the press conference isn't written in some contract somewhere they shouldn't be punished for not doing them. The rider has done his work for the day he should be allowed to go home not bombarded with lame questions. The real questions usually cause someone to get butt-hurt anyways. That being said, top tier guys make enough money so they can retire by the time their 30. So just do the press stuff at least you won't have to work the rest of your life.
