With multiple A1 threads starting months before A1...let's talk Phoenix. I figure within 5 days of Phoenix we need atleast one! I think that James will win but still brushing off the rust, getting the bike set up, and he seems to always take a few rounds to get going. Chad had bad luck last round and him and Dungey seem to be the only riders without some excuse. I think Chad's luck will turn around and he will get a decent start for once. Dungey will show that last week was not a fluke and eventually take 2nd away from Chad. Villipoto will take a solid 4th and continue to get stronger. I will take Hill and Short to round out the top 6. JS, RD, CR, RV, JH, AS. Sounds like JLaw will sit out for Phoenix...but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't and Grant sounds like he is a maybe for Phoenix. I just want everyone to survive Phoenix and the weather to cooperate again for A2 cuz I will be there!
I talked to him a bit on Thursday, and he told me he's had a few side affects from his prior cancer treatments on his eye. He wasn't feeling so great, also had some allergy issues, and didn't sound particularly confident about the ability to last 20 laps.
I think when the gate dropped on Saturday night, the racer in him showed up, he put in a great ride, and anyone who's a fan of his should feel really good about how he did.
I'd sure have liked to have been a fly on the wall for Monster Energy Kawasaki's Monday meeting. There's no need to panic for Villopoto, but Reed's in a tough spot for sure. The interesting thing will be in how he rides now. And whether his stomach problems continue to be an issue. Or maybe if he gets to play spoiler all season long.
