With all the knee injuries, well Stewart, Reed (though Reed's seemed unavoidable), and Villopoto, I have to wonder, do those guys wear knee braces? Was Villopoto wearing high end knee braces when his knee gave out in that silly get off last year? Like I said even if Reed had them I'm pretty sure he was screwed, but then was Stewart wearing them when he "dabbed" his leg and tweaked his knee? Would it have helped? Do they not wear them cause they are annoying and movement restricting? I don't wear knee braces so I wouldn't know, but just have been wondering and figured out that maybe 1 or 2 people here might know, and at the very least probably 30 people here are willing to speculate Smile

Dabbing a foot could cause direct upward impact which isn't what they protect against.

As I understand it knee braces are usually worn more to prevent hyper-extension type injuries than anything else.

Dr. Mark Sanders was a skeptic about the effectiveness of knee braces to reduce knee injuries until he performed a long term controlled study of riders with and without braces. His findings were knee braces do reduce ACL knee injuries in motocross.

I'm sure there's maybe a few guys that don't wear them, but most of the guys do. Some wear the Fox Pods, Asteriks, or get custom fitted CTis that can help prevent hyper-extension just a little better then the others.

Not much the brace can do to prevent twisting of the leg, getting caught in a rut or dabbing in a corner is risky business even with the brace on

I use the CTI custom made ones. I took the form on their website to my Dr, and he wrote me a prescription for them, they were covered by my insurance. I have torn my ACL before and had it fixed, The braces seem to work well for me. I have dabbed a foot and jammed my knee with them on. Villipoto wears them and he still tweaked his knee...IDK...
