MXA online has an article today talking about riders in the East 250 SX class. They list Darryn Durham as one of the favorites and even discuss his recent concussion. How can Durham ride the East 250 class if he's already ridden two West rounds in the 250 class? Screw up or rule change?

Thanks, that's what I figured. That same article (dated 2-12-14) by John Basher says that Bogle is out.........I know he was hurt, but pretty sure he's healed up (somewhat) and is gonna race Dallas. Strange.

He told me at SD he wasn't riding yet but was planning to in a week or 2.

A little off the topic, but.........what was the deal with Tickle a couple years ago (during his Yamaha days).
He was planning to ride West Coast, but wrecked at A1. Was it since he didn't score any points on the West he could ride the East the same year then? Does anyone remember? I think it was his last year on the Yamaha 250.
I guess I'm just asking, because I didn't know what the ruling was.

The rules have changed over the years. It use to be if you weren't top 20 in points you could ride the opposite coast, I think for no points though. They changed it to you could switch if you didn't have any points, and now it think once you designate you can't switch after you ride the first practice. (I could be slightly off on the details)

I have never had a problem with the split series, but lately I have kind of been wishing they would let them race both of them if the riders want to. I understand the logistics standpoint and all of that, but after all the trash talk about each coast being weak it would be cool to see a rider put himself out there and actually contest the opposite coast to either a) back up his comments or b) eat his own words. It could be pretty entertaining.

Maybe whoever wrote it was drunk? Everybody knows it's against the law to ride a 250 at both coasts no matter how you do. If they catch you trying to ride the opposite coast on a 250, with it being a class E felony, you will receive a punishment of no less than one year nor more than six years in prison. In addition, the jury may assess a fine not to exceed twenty five thousand dollars, unless otherwise provided by statute.

Didn't he break his jaw on press day or maybe during practice? Pretty sure he did it before the night show, so I assume that's why he was able to race the East coast.

I think the problem is the number of racers. The two coast series allows more riders to hit the gate. It would be difficult for rookies and up and coming riders to get experience if you had double the riders and the same amount of gates.

It would be a cool experiment to have the two separate series and offer an iron man series. That way if you only have the funds for one coast, you can still win a championship but if you want to run both coasts, you can. But there are pros and cons to that even.

They can only do so much I guess.

That makes sense. I just wish they would cut it out with the banter about which coast is better. I mean are we biggy and tupac, haha. But I guess that is just the nature of the beast in competition.
