Speaking about David Philippaerts (the 2008 MX1 World Champ), am i the only one wondering if he really retired when he races in Italian Championship and battles with Alessandro Lupino, Samuele Bernardini and Michelle Cervellin? I thought that he was done4 in 2016 and made his own team for young guns in EMX250.
I imagine retirement a bit different than beating the MXGP regulars from time to time at the age of 35 years.

They still obviously like bikes, are quite competitive, and, have either the wherewithal or sponsorship, or , both, to keep on keeping one.
It's great to see.
Everyone is trying to blame and shame someone. The truth is nothing is constant, the "FMOTP" title can shift yearly maybe even quicker... It's not only in MX, every sport deals with the "shift of forces" with the knowledge about technique being freely availible on the web, it slowly comes down to the talent, determination and luck of the individual.
The age of empires of athletes is dying. Try to wrap your head around that guys.
Sorry for dumb rant
