Speaking about David Philippaerts (the 2008 MX1 World Champ), am i the only one wondering if he really retired when he races in Italian Championship and battles with Alessandro Lupino, Samuele Bernardini and Michelle Cervellin? I thought that he was done4 in 2016 and made his own team for young guns in EMX250.

I imagine retirement a bit different than beating the MXGP regulars from time to time at the age of 35 years.

A lot of GP guys go back to just doing their own nationals( those races the US think dont exist) .. french nationals are full of ex GP guys.

It's like how you see blokes like Steve Ramon racing still - I've seen his name quite a few times in Beach races and some MX.

They still obviously like bikes, are quite competitive, and, have either the wherewithal or sponsorship, or , both, to keep on keeping one.

It's great to see.

To be honest the media are presenting the whole shabang like that. The conflict sells at the end of the day: AMA vs. GP, MXGP vs. national championship. When GL got approached in the past by media that too much people are getting hurt in season, he swept it under the rug that it is national championship's fault. etc.

Everyone is trying to blame and shame someone. The truth is nothing is constant, the "FMOTP" title can shift yearly maybe even quicker... It's not only in MX, every sport deals with the "shift of forces" with the knowledge about technique being freely availible on the web, it slowly comes down to the talent, determination and luck of the individual.

The age of empires of athletes is dying. Try to wrap your head around that guys.

Sorry for dumb rant

It is super fucking lame to bring "the US" into a completely unrelated thread - that's it. But I think the topic haunts Phil in his dreams

You mean these guys don’t bother doing gps as the entry fees are too high and with no prize money payout, they don’t see the point of lining gl’s pocket when they can actually make Some money racing their own nationals
