This should be fun! Practice starts in about 45min and i figured we would combine practice and the racing all in one thread.

Todays schedule:
(Pacific Daylight Time)
11:40 - LIVE MX2 Timed Practice
12:25 - LIVE MX1 Timed Practice
14:00 - LIVE MX2 Race 1
15:00 - LIVE MXGP Race 1
17:00 - LIVE MX2 Race 2
18:00 - LIVE MXGP Race 2

**Reminder: keep it cool, we are here to "Bench Race" and not argue back and forth, plenty of other thread for that stuff.**

Same brand but so many differences...

Different engines, electronics, cooling systems, intakes, injection systems, suspension components, triple clamps, engine mounts, even swingarms...

ML, what is your opinion on the in my opinion absolutely ridiculous production rule that USA has? It's 2016. The production bikes are good enough that a privateer can compete with a full real factory bike.

Does the GP bike have an electric fan on the radiator? or is that the oil cooler?

Free practice starts in 20 minutes and timed practice starts in 1hour 20 minutes. MXGP TV are only broadcasting timed practice.

I have no problem with the production rule. If the production bikes are that good, then the race teams should be happy using them... Although, it's interesting where the GPs can use one-off frames (and even if they look stock, they aren't over there) while in the US a team such as Suzuki used the 2012 RM-Z450 frame during the 2013 and 2014 season because the newer frame was too rigid in the head-stay region.

I do wish we had something a bit different for the rules on what bikes can be raced. As the current homologation rule is too steep for a small manufacture such as TM to work with. At the same time, I don't want it to be completely scratched so a team such as HRC Honda could show up with their new race bike eight months before the production goes on sale. Or, in the case of the GPs, they hide new engines or frames within old bodywork.

I honestly feel that if we scratched the production rule, a big manufacture such as Honda would go a little nuts from time-to-time. Right now, it's a little harder to justify spending a lot of money on a bike just to race the GPs in while spending a separate amount of R&D to build US spec bikes. I'm worried if you give them free reign on both sides of the pond, they'll go nuts and push us back to some serious one-off bikes like the early 80s.

Once again, just my opinion. I want the sport to stay on similar equipment to what the public races. Not one-off bikes that could become so good, that it gets to the point where other teams have to buy these bikes to be competitive, like a Moto GP situation. Maybe it wouldn't happen, but taking away that rule opens the door for it to possibly happen.

Motors TV aswell. with Paul Maulin commenting the racing. Doesn't look like it will be live this time though, but maybe it will in England?

Electric fan... They run some insanely massive radiators too.

I've heard their engine is quite a bit different than the US spec team stuff. Apparently, the GP team spins their engine a bit faster and focuses more towards the top-end power, meaning it needs to be revved a bit more. RV didn't like it...

Thank you for the good and clear answer! I like your thoughts. Removing all the regulations would maybe be a bit silly but like you said, why not make the homologation number lower so a company like TM could have 1 or 2 guys riding in US?

But you can't compare MX to MotoGP. That is such a different way of racing for the manufacturers. It's the F1 of motorcycling.

Although they have spec electronics and tires now and the racing have never ever been better(in my opinion).
