I do wish we had something a bit different for the rules on what bikes can be raced. As the current homologation rule is too steep for a small manufacture such as TM to work with. At the same time, I don't want it to be completely scratched so a team such as HRC Honda could show up with their new race bike eight months before the production goes on sale. Or, in the case of the GPs, they hide new engines or frames within old bodywork.
I honestly feel that if we scratched the production rule, a big manufacture such as Honda would go a little nuts from time-to-time. Right now, it's a little harder to justify spending a lot of money on a bike just to race the GPs in while spending a separate amount of R&D to build US spec bikes. I'm worried if you give them free reign on both sides of the pond, they'll go nuts and push us back to some serious one-off bikes like the early 80s.
Once again, just my opinion. I want the sport to stay on similar equipment to what the public races. Not one-off bikes that could become so good, that it gets to the point where other teams have to buy these bikes to be competitive, like a Moto GP situation. Maybe it wouldn't happen, but taking away that rule opens the door for it to possibly happen.
I've heard their engine is quite a bit different than the US spec team stuff. Apparently, the GP team spins their engine a bit faster and focuses more towards the top-end power, meaning it needs to be revved a bit more. RV didn't like it...

But you can't compare MX to MotoGP. That is such a different way of racing for the manufacturers. It's the F1 of motorcycling.
Although they have spec electronics and tires now and the racing have never ever been better(in my opinion).
