I was thinking the same thing. Especially since Weimer bounced from 12 to 32... very interesting.

I'm also getting tired of Browny holding on to that #3. Props to him for being able to go out and get some points to hold the number... but enough is enough. Time to pass the torch...

Question: In the Racer X film of Will Hahn aboard his Geico Honda he's running the number 32, whereas here it has him down as 31?

Jason Lawrence earned #53 last year but ran #338.

Im surprised that Les Smith got such a low number. He did better then I thought this year.

I think he should run 54. Would be a nice change.

Just read this on Matthes twit:

"The riders have to run their assigned number unless they have a career number so no more 577 for Davalos, 338 for Lawrence, etc etc."

So how does one earn or lose a career number?

Pretty sure its by finishing the end of the year in the top 10 in combined points.

#1 - 9 are for Champions / past Champions (450 SX, 250 MX, and 450 MX) or a Champion can pick a two or three digit # as there career #.

Then you have riders that earn top 10 in overall combined points (450 SX, 250 MX, and 450 MX) at the end of each season. These riders get to pick a permanent # for the rest of their career.

Wil had #32 on his bike because he probably got his hands on some preliminary number sheets, but once BT confirmed he wanted to keep his #101 from New Zealand, which he earned as a permanent in 2007, rather than the 20 he would have earned this year, everyone behind him moved up one spot, and so Wilbur is now #31. I called and told him and he thought it was pretty funny.

Yep, some of my prelim numbers are off now. Doh!

Things have a funny way of working out, though. Now Broc Tickle gets 20 (which he wanted), and Travis Baker should bump up one to 58, which was his amateur number.

So where are all the old guys saying "HELL YEAH they brought back the old numbering system!" But personally i dont like it. I have to memorize everyone's number now. Haha. Well something new at least.

It's not entirely the old system. There are still guys with permanent numbers.
