Looking to do some at-home cerakoting on some of my YZ250 parts and looking for any advice or pointers throughout the process. Wanting to do the brake calipers, hubs, clutch cover, cases, and swing arm and subframe. I have been reading and researching online but wanted a mx perspective vs. the gun perspective. Will be doing this all at home and just using a conventional home oven.

If there is any specific degreaser, brand of cerakote, media for sandblasting etc etc. If it turns out good and worth it, or better off just sending it off to have done.

We Cerakote a lot of custom car parts in-house. We have had extensive contact with Cerakote on their process. This is what Cerakote tells us:

We use an aluminum oxide blast media to clean up the parts and give the surface a nice texture (get a recommendation for Cerakote). Tape the parts off prior to blasting and re-tape if necessary being very careful not to contaminate the now blasted surfaces.

Cerakote does not recommend any cleaners or degreasers prior to coating. We never let the parts touch bare skin or anything that could contaminate the surface before coating. We hang the parts in the booth and blow them off with filtered and dried compressed air only.

Using a very fine needle in your paint gun (I would call Cerakote and get a recommendation), apply one even coat, medium to wet is all that is needed. We use the air cure product which is what Cerakote recommended for our use.

Shake the hell out of the product before spraying, it separates very quickly and can create a very uneven look.

Do what you will with this info, but it has worked great for us.
