Hey! I just spent the last couple months designing and implementing a new look for my new bike and wanted to share it with like-minded folk!

I designed all of the graphics on www.backyarddesignusa.com and chose logos of brands/companies of parts and stuff I use on or in the bike. You can get really into it and change small accent areas with colours and patterns if you wish. I’d recommend using a computer as it didn’t work properly when I went into the editor on the mobile site.

Below is a list of things I’ve changed or added from stock:

Fasst Co Flexx Handlebars (does wonders for arm pump reduction/elimination) - comes with 3 firmnesses of compression and rebound elastomers to tune the feel to the rider. I love these things and don’t think I’d be able to do a full moto without them now!

Twin Air Powerflow Kit - the new generation of YZ’s are reknown for ‘filter flapping’, the OEM piece of toast filter gets shaken up and down as the piston is thumping up towards it, causing it to vibrate rapidly and eventually allowing dirt to pass through the backfire screen guard. I put this kit on the bike before I ever took the bike out as I was aware of the problem before I bought the bike. There is also an added benefit of minor throttle response increase using this kit and if you use a larger airbox ‘bump’ you can gain around a horsepower I believe. I didn’t use one of the boxes as I think they look kinda ugly personally, but that’s just my preference! The bike is plenty quick enough with the standard box. A side note is I could not get hold of a 250 specific kit from anywhere at the time, however the 450 has the exact same air box mouth shape starting from 2019 I believe (may even go earlier than that) so I ordered one for a 450 and it fits exactly the same no problems.

PC Racing Filter Skins - if you ride anywhere sandy, dusty or generally dry I recommend getting these skins. They save you having to go through the whole air filter cleaning, drying and oiling process every time you go ride. Wish I had bought these sooner. They’re reuseable too! Just wash out with dish soap or kerosene, dry, oil and they’re ready to go again. They don’t restrict air flow and there’s no loss of power or throttle response, just less chores when you get home from a days riding!

Fastway Evolution 4 Footpegs - adjustable in basically every direction. I angled them acute to the frame to encourage knee gripping, used the 12mm pins in the centre spar and 10mm front and rear spars to allow for foot rocking under acceleration and deceleration. I reused the OEM spring as they're substantially thicker, stronger and longer than the supplied ones with the kit (I had to get the fit kit with these also), I ran it on a lower setting by flipping which side the springs go. The spring can't go in the designated holes because it won't fit the intended way when going for the lower option but I've never had a problem with running them as pictured below.

Rekluse Clutch Cover - this was the last purchase of the revamp, 99% for the image and 1% because it’s billet rather than cast meaning it will take a big central impact and more than likely not shatter. Also allows for around 100ml additional oil keeping the clutch cooler and reduce fading. Plus it looks pretty sick!

Dunlop MX12 - the bike comes with Dunlop MX33’s but I put an MX12 on the rear as the tracks around my part of Florida are sandy. It hooks up really well and has been durable so far.

Works Connection Holeshot Device - contemplated other devices, but was finding mixed reviews online and from a couple of riding mates where mechanisms can stick and cause you to rip your lower fork guards of whilst riding. Played it safe and went with what we see the big dogs running as they’re too expensive to end up mixed in with track surface instead of being on your bike! Worked perfect so far!

Arc RC8 Clutch Assembly - my best mate put me onto this one (cheers Leo!) this lever is unbreakable in the sense that the lever itself is made up of memlon (a mixture of composite materials with a memory for its original shape), under normal pull there is no movement or bending on the lever itself, only under excessive force does it start to bend. It eventually goes back to where it should be or you can push it to speed up the process. It has tonnes of adjustment increments so it would be almost impossible to not get a feel comfortable to the individual. It has a sealed pivot bearing so the pull is smooth and consistent each time. The perch has a sleeve that rotates around your bars under a sudden impact. You adjust the force required for it to spin using the lower bolt facing the rider. The upper has loctite on it and is to be pinched up.

Acerbic Sump Guard - does what it says on the tin, wasn’t a bad price and once fitted is solid in place. Can be awkward to tighten up the front facing cap head as the bracket on the internal side likes to spin as you tighten it up. Just put your thumb over it whilst tightening to stop it spinning.

Pro Taper Pillow Top Grips - these are a thicker vibration absorbing grip, rather tacky but they fit my hands nice and are comfortable for longer riding sessions.

Exhaust - before I took the bike to a track I removed the full exhaust system and coated it with a clear gloss engine block enamel spray. It leaves a nice clear shiny layer that protects the pipe from stains and rusting. I applied a couple of coats but be careful not to spray in one area for too long as whilst the contents are wet they can leave a pale milky residue. When you first start the bike and bring it up to temperature there will be a lot of smoke from the enamel setting and burning off the excess - you’ll want to start it outside!

As most of you probably are aware the newer YZ’s have built in wifi behind the left numberplate, and the free Yamaha Power Tuner App allows you to pair with your bike and fine tune the engine mapping either by downloading other peoples recommended maps or you can adjust the ignition timing and fuelling yourself. Whichever map you send to ‘Map 2’ will be the map that runs when you switch the blue light on the handlebars on. I have played around with this a bit, and did have a heavy hitting map as my secondary but found it too sudden and jerky for me when trying to put some smooth laps together so I have changed it to a more linear map and the difference is hugely noticeable.

Thanks for taking the time to read about my pride and joy! Smile

Any questions on any of the parts or the bike itself feel free to ask!
