Top 10: Daytona 2

Whoa, there's a lot going on in the first turn at Daytona. Mike Alessi got a great start, but went down. James Stewart (Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing) hit his handlebar, which caused bike problems. Dean Wilson (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, filling in for Chad Reed on the Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports team) grabbed the holeshot, but Ryan Villopoto already has his head down, in full charge mode. Let's count down through the top ten in this one, and then check the 250s.

1. Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Kawasaki) made this one look easy, with the exception of a tip-over near the end of the night. Even with that, he had a 12-plus second lead.

2. Ken Roczen (Red Bull KTM) was sixth on lap one of the 450 main, and came through to second by the end. He and Ryan Dungey are only a point apart in the title chase, but they're both over a race behind Ryan Villopoto at this point.

3. Ryan Dungey (Red Bull KTM) got stuck behind Dean Wilson for a bit, and said he used up a little too much energy getting by, which resulted in a little less fight in him when Ken Roczen caught him and went by.

4. Broc Tickle (RCH Racing Soaring Eagle) had his best result of the season so far this season, and maybe the best of his 450 career. Nicely done.

5. Andrew Short (BTO Sports/KTM) used a good start to his advantage, and put in a top five, which is his best of the season.

6. Wil Hahn (GEICO Honda) was happy with sixth...almost. He was a little frustrated that he could see fourth at the end, but he's made great progress on the 450 this season.

7. Dean Wilson not only took a heat race win, but he got a great start in the main and led for a short time. He stayed in second until Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey got by on lap 15, and then slid back to seventh at the finish.

8. If there's a "home" race for Matt Goerke (BTO Sports/KTM) this is probably it, and he turned in his best result of the season so far. He had a rough start to the '14 campaign with a broken finger, and has been racing through it.

9. Justin Brayton (Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX) finished in ninth this week, but is now only three points out of fourth spot overall for the series.

10. Josh Grant (Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX) had a tough night, with a heat race crash, and a trip through the LCQ to make it to the main, but he finished tenth in the main event.

Here's your top three from the 450 main, with Ryan Villopoto lofting his fourth Daytona Supercross trophy (and it's very heavy indeed), and he's joined by Ken Roczen, and Ryan Dungey.

At the start of the 250 main, it was Adam Cianciarulo and Martin Davalos leading the way. Let's check out the top ten in the 250s to see where they finished.

1. Blake Baggett (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) was on a mission in Daytona, and had a comfortable gap of nearly 17 seconds at the end of the main.

2. Your 250 East points leader, Adam Cianciarulo (46, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), almost took a heat race win, but had a bike issue on the last lap that dropped him back, but he rode strong in the main to a second-place finish.

3. Martin Davalos (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) led for a lap, but it was clear that Blake Baggett was on the move after he'd charged from deep in the pack at the start to second.

4. A fourth here match Blake Wharton's best of the season so far on his GEICO Honda.

5. Justin Bogle (GEICO Honda) had a tangle at the start of his heat race that had him way down in the order, but he charged back to fourth. In the main, he was in seventh on the first lap, but moved up to fifth by the end.

6. The Jeremy Martin we expected to see this year has started to show up the last couple rounds, with a second in his heat, and he put his Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha into sixth spot this week.

7. After a couple rough rounds to start the season, Matt Bisceglia (GEICO Honda) has shown a lot more of his potential the last couple weeks.

8. Vince Friese (Factory MetalWorks) was eighth this week...his worst of the season. But he's also fifth in points.

9. Kyle Cunningham (Smartop MotoConcepts Racing) nearly matched his best race of the season with a ninth, and he's eighth in 250 East points.

10. Matt Lemoine (JAB Motorsports) is hitting his stride, and has had top tens the last three weeks in a row. The exception? Dallas, where he had to drop out when his subframe was coming loose.

On the podium it was another Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki sweep. Adam Cianciarulo has a seven-point lead over Martin Davalos in the 250 East title chase, with Blake Baggett another eight points back.
