The Toronto round of the 2008 Monster Energy Supercross series stands out for a few reasons. While under the previous year’s calendar, Toronto and Vancouver stood alone as the pre-season bonus rounds for the FIM World Supercross GP portion of the series. This time around, Toronto was the lone added round, and it was in the midst of the series.

The Lites action wasn’t part of either the East or West calendars, and garnered little attention from the teams. We heard it referred to more than once as sort of a demo round.

This one was also run under the auspices of the Canadian Motorcycle Association. While things ran fairly smoothly, chasing up fully detailed results for the Lites event was downright impossible. Sorry, gang.

The track itself was extremely challenging. Sure, Timmy Ferry got his turn at designing the track, and while the length (nearly a minute long) was more than usual, the surface itself added to the complexity. The sandy soil was saturated, but frozen when it was brought inside. As it thawed, it quickly turned mushy. Several riders mentioned that it was riding an indoor mud race, and riders had to work hard to minimize the number of mistakes that they made.

In the Supercross main, it was all Chad Reed, aboard his L&M Racing / San Manuel Band of Mission Indians / Yamaha. He nailed the holeshot, and checked out, taking his seventh win of the season. Behind him, it was a duel for second and third spot between Kevin Windham (Torco Racing Fuels Honda), and Davi Millsaps (Honda Red Bull Racing). Both riders had crashes and/or off-track excursions, and in the end, it was Windham grabbing the second spot, and Millsaps rounding out the podium.

In the Supercross Lites main, the big story was the DNA Energy Drink / BTOSports / Rick Case Honda team which swept the podium, with Shaun Skinner, Matt Boni and Kyle Cunningham.
