Tim Buck, Davey WIlliams and Dean Pollack recently visited Saddleback present day. Talk about memories...

Sure is sad that they closed the park in 1984, and 27 years later it still sits undeveloped. From what I can see in the pics, does not look like much has encroached on the property around it either.

I know that development/ encroachment was not the only reason it was closed, but just seems like a waste to have such an icon of the sport being closed down and just reverting back to nature.

Not sure if it is possible, but it would be cool to have the pics labeled as to what used to be in the current pics (example "Suicide Mountain", "Magoo Doubles", etc.).

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Tim Buck who took the pictures just added captions to them explaining where they are on the track.

Man I actually hate seeing pics like that of old tracks with so much history that are now just relics...

Just makes you want to rebuild it to its former glory like an old dirt bike!

I took a trip out there my self many years ago lots of memories what still stands out is the smell where all the crapper were lined up at and when you buddy went inside of one you and a couple guy hold the door shut and start rocking the crapper with then inside yelling at you or back the van up to the door so they can get back out.
The good old days.

Thanks Tim Buck for the effort.

I rode the property before it was a park and it looked the same as now.

That was cool. I went there about ten years ago and looked around a little, not nearly as much as those guys did.

Thanks for posting that.

I made a pilgrimage yesterday to the site of the legendary Saddleback Park.

It took a while walking around to begin to see where things were that I'd only seen pictures of. Pretty awesome.

Bygone era, but why did it close ? Remember seeing pictures of the MXA wrecking crew there with Lance Moorewood doing various bike tests there. So may places near my home closed up as well. Things change I guess. One thing for sure most mountain bike trails near my place are now overgrown, former riding areas developed. I got the Husky TE510 dual sport just so I can ride from home again. Used to be able to suite up from home and ride my 426 down the power line to our track. All gone !

The water truck driver rolled it down a hill and was killed, then shortly after that, a young boy on a mini was killed. The land owners wanted an outrageous insurance policy from then on, so the track had to shut down. If I remember correctly, the insurance policy was going to have to be $1 million. Seems like that is pretty cheap by today's standards!
