It will be funny to see Nissan bragging about winning the F1 World Championship if Red Bull repeats this year.

People at Toyota and Honda must be shaking their heads about this one after the hundreds of millions they blew trying to achieve what Nissan/Infiniti will get for a paltry $11 million!

Red Bull budget boosted as engines renamed Infiniti
By Andrew Benson

Red Bull's Renault engines will be renamed Infiniti this season in a move that will boost the world champion team's budget by at least £7m.

Infiniti - the premium brand of Japan's Nissan, part-owned by Renault - is using F1 to boost its global profile.

The engines will be the same, branding aside, but the plan means Red Bull will get their engines for free.

That will save the team 8m Euros (£6.8m) a year, the cost of all customer engine supplies in Formula 1.

It is not yet clear whether Renault/Nissan will provide further financial support for Red Bull, but even if the deal just provides for free engines it will be a significant boost to the team.

It means that money - estimated to be about 4-5% of their total budget - can be freed up to be spent in other areas, potentially increasing performance.

Red Bull had been the only title-contending team who had to pay for their engines. The price for such deals is fixed at 8m Euros by an agreement between all F1 engine manufacturers through the teams' umbrella group Fota.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel won the drivers' title in 2010, becoming the youngest champion in F1 history, while the team also won the constructors' championship.

The team will start the new season as favourites - their new car, the RB7, has looked the class of the field so far in pre-season testing.

Red Bull's closest rivals look set to be Ferrari, who saw Fernando Alonso narrowly lose out in the drivers' title battle to Sebastian Vettel last season.

The Red Bull-Infiniti deal is expected to be announced officially at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday.

Nissan and Renault are trying to boost Infiniti's presence in a highly competitive market, in which its rivals are giants such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes.

The two companies have been in partnership since 1999, with France's Renault holding a 44.3% shareholding in Nissan and the Japanese company owning 15% of Renault.

There's what, like 19 or 20 races? $11 million for 2 cars? I'm no math expert but according to my calculator that's about $290,000 per engine per race!!

And this is AFTER they settled on a deal to where every team kept their engine budget at that level, and AFTER development and R&D money to design the freakin thing. Wow.

See what 4-strokes did to car racing Tongue

How can you attack the costs involved in F1 when you have a motoGP bike as your avatar. Come on now! Wink

The point was Infiniti has been around open wheel racing a long time.

If you paid any attention , you'd know what Premixes mom has done for the last 15 years. Proof its better to keep your mouth shut and look like a fool.

Who gives a shit?
It had nothing to do with the point of the thread, that Infiniti WAS NOT MAKING THE F1 ENGINES, only labeling them Infiniti

You can dance, bob and weave all you want, you still look like a dumb fucking tool who spouted off stupid shit again.

Grow a pair and just say "my mistake" and move the fuck on.

Not engine rebadging as first reported but only just a sponsorship deal.

Infiniti becomes major RBR backer

By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, March 1st 2011, 00:00 GMT

Red Bull drivers with new Infiniti logosJapanese car maker Infiniti is to enter Formula 1 as a major sponsor of the Red Bull Racing team in 2011, although the move will not extend to a rebranding of the outfit's Renault engines.

Infiniti, which is the luxury car brand of long-term Renault partner Nissan, has embarked on the move to increase its brand awareness as part of a major push to raise sales worldwide.

The initial two-year deal, which will also act as a precursor to technical collaboration between the company and Red Bull Racing, will see Infiniti's name and logos feature on team clothing and prominent parts of the car - including the rear wing and nose.

Infiniti's presence will be alongside, and not instead of, the continued major presence of the Renault brand at the championship-winning team. The French car manufacturer remains the team's official engine supplier and its logos will continue to feature heavily on the car.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner said: "Red Bull has always taken a different approach, so when the Infiniti executives outlined their innovative plan to us we were very open to working with them. Coming off the back of our 2010 drivers' and constructors' world championships, we feel even more excited to be starting the 2011 season with a new and committed partner like Infiniti."

Andy Palmer, senior vice president of Infiniti, said: "Over the mid-term, Infiniti will be simultaneously expanding its global presence and broadening its product range. Given these twin ambitions, it is clear that F1 offers us an unrivalled global communications platform."

Horner believes that the arrival of Infiniti into F1 is great news for the sport - at a time when it is attracting fresh manufacturer interest following the arrival of Lotus, Lada and Marussia in the last two years.

"From a Red Bull perspective and from an F1 perspective, it is positive news that we have got Nissan and Infiniti coming into the sport - and picking the sport because of the exposure that it is generating globally," he told AUTOSPORT. "It is not only a fantastic news story for us, but as manufacturers have been leaving in their droves over the last few years, for a Japanese manufacturer to be coming back in is great news."

Infiniti's decision to enter F1 has also been welcomed by Renault, which believes the collaboration is a big boost to both car brands.

Bernard Rey, president of Renault Sport F1, said: "While Renault is rightfully very proud of our achievements within F1, we know the future is about collaboration.

"To have a talented and committed Alliance partner like Infiniti is very welcome as we set out on the current and future challenges in Formula 1.

"So it is with great pleasure that I would like to welcome Andy Palmer and his entire team in our F1 adventure, and I look forward to starting the 2011 season together as Alliance partners."

Funny.

The actual French cars are absolute P.O.S.'s...but they can "source" a helluva a race engine.

As to the Infi-Indy motors? That was a prettt cool deal. The best Ilmor-esque-post-Chevy knock-off, yet (Were they actually Ilmor motors?).

Btw, Blake, I get the connection...you forgot to say,"Nothing to see here, people. Move along, move along."

Now, here's the real interesting thing: With some of the new spec-equip and last-minute "expected" rules adjustments...will Red Bull still be the best car? Wing and Aero madness coming!

As of the latest testing? "Same as it ever was".

But, the Red car and the Silver car, both, have the means to screw up the season.

I'm jus' hopeful!
(Ask Indy, he'll explain all this better than I. Besides, what could I possibly know?)

I'm not sure, but I think the Infiniti Indycar motor was actually based on a real road car motor. It actually had the same bore and bore spacing as the 4.5L Q45 engine, but with a shorter stroke to give it 3.5L.

The engine was developed by my old mates at TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) Engines in the UK (which is now owned by John Menard)

It definitely wasn't anything to do with Ilmor.
