...got a chance to meet him when he was about 14 at home in Virginia Beach. He's on the cover of OUTSIDE Magazine with the subtitle of "10 - The Greatest Sports Record of All Time".

I've got mad respect for wave riding and have caught many waves myself, but I think Ricky Carmichael's "10" (with 2 perfect seasons) is right there with Kelly's accomplishments...thoughts.

Massive Slater fan here Stephon.Comparing what Slats and RC have done is a tough one. They are both the ultimate competitors, driven by the ultimate desire to be #1.I'm sure both have driven their competition and there respective sports to a higher level in the process. The only thing that separates their achievements would be that surfing is judged and with moto it's the first across the line.

We have about 4 different statues around here of Slater
I actually surf at "Slater Way"

This is the newest one, placed after he scored #10

It was cool when it was covered in ice a month or so back

One of the things I remember most about meeting Kelly was that he seemed like such a smart kid; not a smart-ass, but just a really sharp kid - like a straight A student. Of course, back then, he was projected to do so much in the sport and I'd say he's exceeded all expectations and is still racking em up.

Slater is like a Jordan, Magic type of athlete. They only come around once in a generation. He sure did live up to the expectations of the surfing world and then some. Here is an image of the Cardiff Kook, worst surf statue in the world.
