I’m a big fan of Alpinestars Supertech gear. However, I’m also a big fan of not spending $350 on gear…
The Astars “Racer” line of gear is starting to see discounts, and I like a lot of the color options. How does the fit and quality compare to Supertech? Is it significantly baggier, stiffer, and/or heavier?
It’s the most relaxed fit of the line. The Racer Air line is a lot better for warm weather riding. The pants can be tight, might want to size up, especially if you have a gut. (No shots fired)
I tried some a few years back because there was a color way I really liked. I personally felt the pants were really uncomfortable. Very basic with 0 stretch and more canvas type material. I'm a slimmer guy and the pants still felt a size smaller than anything else I have worn. The jersey wasn't bad. It's all relative though and what you're used to. I have mainly worn high end gear, so it was pretty apparent why it was cheaper to me.
Currently in FXR and love it.
This is what I figured. Obviously, Astars puts the pros in "Racer" line colorways, but uses the premium materials and fit of Supertech... really sells me on the cheaper colorways. I guess I'll just have to wait for '26 Supertech to start seeing discounts. Thanks for the feedback.
