Retirement is rough, needed more things to keep me occupied. So, I went and purchased this 1997 CR250 basket case. $800 seemed like a decent deal, until I realized this thing is clapped out like the Indians did the Buffalo.

Started getting it disassembled. It’s been “Power Washed”, every bearing is a dried out rusty mess.
Dropped the frame, swingarm, and sub-frame off at powder coat this morning. Mardi says, “What are you doing, Crazy Man”?

I’m in need of a 1992-2001 Stator side engine case.
Good score will be following! I too am retired and also building a 97 purchased as roller. Gonna shove 97 500 in it and do the Elsinore kit .

Awesome. I’m looking for a 325 big bore cylinder. See ESR has/had one……
How about a 24 hour turnaround on Powder Coat? Superior did an awesome job.

Looking at wheel sets. I’m really digging Gold Excels. Don’t want too much black.

Update from BusterScruggs
Here’s how the brakes turned out!

Shock body is wrong! But I’m not sending it back for another 90 days.

I had a 97 also, that bike was the definition of rigid! The motor to me was so much fun. I remember shifting from 2nd to 3rd and just smiling. Broke my femur at Perris 1 afternoon on that thing. Ended up selling it and getting a Yamaha. Very interested in this build.
A big pile of parts are about to explode in to a rolling chassis again. It’ll be more interesting than, “I bought this crap for it”.

Dropped the rear brake mount and the shock linkage off at the machine shop today. My Suspension Guy got my stuff that was out getting anodized back. Shock body was supposed to be Gold, but I’ve accepted it. Not sending it back for another 90 days!
My machinist understood the assignment!

Put the chain guard, carbon chain guide, and Gbrakes red stainless brake line, NiceCNC line guides. The pockets are machined for a 25mm axle. Spent $800 to save $200 on an axle! 🤣 As always, “Gold” = titanium.
FedEx dropped off the rear wheel this afternoon. Sprocket is good to go, wrong hardware (too much shoulder) for the Galfer wave.

Titanium YZ250 foot peg pins and brake pedal pivot.
