Jaw dropping display of on the edge racing. And whatever Sears Point Trans AMA, and Supercross races in Northern CA he did, probably up through '82, before playing the bass became my passion.

Hanging out as a kid at the Golden State Nationals watching Brad Lackey pit out of a Honda 'rig' and railing on his 500 that weekend, was a cool experience. Too many good NorCal motocrosses to bring up here, but I never had that rockstar vibe from any of those guys, to burst my motocross hero bubble of them.

i raced hannah and talked to him a few times back then. he was always very cool to us "privateers" and literally despised other factory racers. saw him jump his bike over a few willing bystanders with no ramp. i was even ready to bet hannah some money my boy kiki, matthews dad could whip his ass on a bmxer...no takers though.

small story but at the seattle sx in 79 during practice i saw hannah come up short ona jump...it wasn't a triple or double but hannah was trying to make it that. he basically jumped off in mid air, landed on his feet with the scooter next to him, absorbed the shock with his legs and feet, "hi-ho'd silvered back onto the scooter then roosted the living shit out of who-ever was behind him and "galloped" away....on the gas the entire way. never saw anything like it before or since.

I don't think the racers have the same mystic (sp?) as they did back then, 'cause we're feed so much info about them from the media, and their own outlets, that there's almost nothing left to the imagination.

Can anyone help me out with figuring what year like Lackey jersey is from? Early privateer days? I've had zero luck trying to find a year where he wore #9 while racing a Husky. It was given to me last year by a childhood friend of Brad's who found out I was a motocross fan. It's free to a good home if someone's interested in framing it, but not if you want to try and sell it.
