I bring you this thread for two reason, one because ive been watching sx/mx races on youtube from the 80s-90s-00s-10s to current. The other is that were waiting for the mx season to start.
Which modern day riders remind you of old legends? (This has nothing to do with championships, or race wins, just on track similarities)
For me
Current Racer/ Racer from the past
Ken Roczen / Jeff Ward
Eli Tomac / Jeff Stanton
Arron Plessinger / Larry Ward
Cooper Webb / Mike Kiedrowski
Chase Sexton / James Stewart
Cole Davies / Chad Reed / Jeremy Mcgrath/ Ricky Johnson hybrid
Justin Barcia / Bob Hannah
Hunter Lawrence / Jean-Michel Bayle
By no means is this list comprehensive or conclusive. It is highly subjective, Feel free to argue this, or add your own similarities you have seen.
Some riders are completely one offs with no comparisons.. for instance i have yet to see somebody similar to Mike Bell, Doug Henry, Ezra Lusk, etc.
Kenny is more like JMB than Hunter is
Eli is a lot like Stanton
Jett is like RJ
Hannah and Tripes are their own men; no one reminds me of them
Chase rides like Emig
Jett is like Stefan Everts. I agree with Tomac like Stanton
Every time I see Sexton on the Kawi I think this.
Webb reminds me of Carmichael. Short, not the greatest style. But a ton of grit and not great through the whoops.
Davies reminds me of Stewie only in the whoops. Other than that I've yet to see anyone else ride like 259.

Jett’s style reminds me of O’Mara and Bailey…a mixture of both.
