He is no longer the US distributor for EXTREME. He is now a proud father. Last time I talked to Dennis he said that Guy was doing alot of rock crawling in Oklahoma and Texas as his new hobby. Probably getting crazy as hell if he does it anything like he rode bikes.

My experience with that is a whole lot of money out and a whole lot of satisfaction in.

I remember him launching into the whoops at anaheim. He was completly wide open and on the edge every lap as he jumped twice as far as anyone else into those whoops...almost clearing the whole section, still to this day I have never seen anyone do a section so far above and beyond the competition in supercross. He didnt win but it was baaaad ass...anyone remember that?

I think it was 91 Seattle when Bayle won.
I seen Cooper turn a triple into a quad,it was insane.
Pretty much landing in the corner.
No other rider even attempted that night, nor do I think anyone to this day would attempt it.
It was huge.
The guy could definitely air it out, like no other.

I seen him in line at sign up for the Washougal National later that year.
Just sorta jokingly I asked him..... "so when are you gonna retire?"
He just got a big ear to ear smile and said "never".
I had seen him years later when he was riding that 540 KTM in the nationals (like 40 years old).
I was like dam....he really wasn't kidding. Smile

Eric Johnson just completed an epic feature on Guy Cooper's career ups and downs that you will see in the March issue of Racer X Illustrated, which comes out in a couple of weeks. If you're a Cooper fan, you will really enjoy this piece.

Guy is also one of the nicest and approachable riders as well. I rember at the 88 Broome national my Mom,Dad and Guy and his wife struck up a conversation after the race(I'm pretty sure Guy won) in the pits and they just hung out bullshitting with me and my parents for a long time , they were so down to earth and cool, it felt like we were just hanging out after a local race with some fellow racers. I will always be a Cooper fan.

To me it sounds like they added the announcing and the whole soundtrack afterwards.

That's the legendary Larry "Super Mouth" Huffman doing play-by-play, and David Stanfield doing color. It had to be dubbed in post-production (and the crowd noise is definitely an add-on to the soundtrack) because Huffman was also the live announcer that night!

They did things different back then, and all we could say was "wish it were live" or next-day at least. Now it is and what we hear is, "wish we had those announcers".... the circle track of life.

Yup. Wasn't that at Anaheim '93 ? Could have been the first 250 main that Jeremy ever won but the crowd were so in to Cooper the front runners were almost forgotten.

Can remember that like it was yesterday.

Give and take....good with the bad....

I'll take the live/next-day coverage over the good announcers....I ain't ungrateful. But I can still complain about the annoucers, though.

Maybe one day, we'll get some decent announcers along with the live/next-day coverage and nobody will complain?

And by "decent announcers" I mean announcers that show HONEST emotion, and HONESTLY get into the race and it shows through in their voice, and yet, can manage to give accurate information and speak clearly. Sometimes I think Ralph sounds like an extra on a soap opera that is "acting" excited. Jeff is really excited and truly gets into the racing, but then his words get all mixed up and he stops making sense.

Too much to ask? maybe?

Larry says "Cooper is riding like Charlie Manson." Lol Wow. I wonder what people would say if Ralf said _____ is riding like Jeffry Dahmer.

I see Guy almost daily. He's 49 now and has mentioned more than once about coming out of retirement again at 50. He will be racing pitbikes on the 8th and I promise you, he's still got it.
