Picked up a 2022 KTM 300 XCW Erzberg edition a couple of weeks ago. I've got two rides on it and can't get used to the bottom end power. I'll say that I've ridden plenty of two strokes, so I understand the power characteristics, but I've never had the slow rev issue that I've got with this bike. I'm riding AZ desert, so lots of whooped out trails. If I need to stab the throttle to lift the front over a whoop, the engine reacts lethargically, like I'm in a gear too high and I end up plowing into the face of whatever I'm trying to get over instead of getting in the powerband and lifting the front. I know this bike is supposed to be a tractor down low, so I'm thinking this might just be a nature of the beast thing. Any suggestions?
300 XCW slow revving, is this normal?

Check you're not dragging the rear brake.
What silencer are you running and is it spooged up?
Then test compression.
Check power valve setting. Should be less than one turn in from flush with the case. Closer to flush more like a traditional 2 stroke hit
One other thing, I had to relearn how to ride a 2 stroke when I got my 300xcw. Low rpm, gear high short shifting is its sweet spot. Can rev it out but doesn’t seem to be the way to ride it, at least with the stock ECU. Also look into the idle screw mod if the previous owner didn’t do it for your bike.
Not dragging the brake.
FMF Turbine Core2 that is freshly repacked
Compression is at 140psi

Power valve is in the stock position. I ordered the different springs and was planning on playing with different settings this weekend to see if I can dial it in closer to how I want.
Yea, it definitely likes to be ridden in the low/mid rpm. There is no power on top! But I know that's how that engine is designed and I'm not desert racing, so I'm totally fine with that. I'll look into the idle screw mod, I remember seeing bits and pieces about it, but haven't really looked into what the benefits are.
That's low compression. Are you holding the throttle wide open while cranking? Do you have a proper gauge with a Schrader valve in the hose?
Verify you're doing the test correctly, then: Pull the pipe off and look inside the exhaust port to inspect the piston and cylinder.
Played with the power valve setting over the weekend, definitely woke the bike up. I took it out about 1.5 turns and I think I found a good sweet spot!
