Hey guys,
Back in April, I picked this bike up in Germany for 700 euros. I’m from the Netherlands, and for that price, it was a great deal — especially considering the condition it was in. The transmission was locked up, but overall, the bike was in mint shape, as you can see in the pictures.🤣
This is my first bike project, and I’ve been slowly building it up. Progress has been a bit slow because I’m busy with work, school, and racing, so I work on it whenever I find the time.
My goal is to build it like a 2000 Splitfire Pro Circuit bike — but without spending crazy money. That means I won’t have a lot of genuine Pro Circuit parts for now, but maybe in the future, when I have the budget, I’ll start adding them.
i invested in a powder coating setup and a Cerakote kit. I also built an oven so I could do most of the work myself.

when i got the bike the engine was just slammed together so it could be sold. when i opened it up i found the wrong snap rings in the gearbox — one from the output shaft (front sprocket) and one from the kickstarter gear.
i probably split the cases like 5 times before i found the issue 😂 learned the hard way that from now on i’m always checking every single part on a non running bike before putting it back together.
the clutch basket was toast so i replaced it and rebuilt the whole engine. all new oem bearings and a prox connecting rod, prox clutch basket, vhm head and a wiseco piston.
i cerakoted a few parts too but used too harsh of a grit when sandblasting so the finish didn’t come out as clean as i hoped but it still looks decent.
the bike also had a vforce and a stator from aliexpress on it, both got replaced with oem

after i got the engine sorted i started tearing down the rest of the bike. every single part had to be blasted because you can’t get a decent paint stripper here. i used sand first to get all the heavy stuff off, then finished all the alu with glass bead so it came out nice and smooth, and went over it with the pryme mx pads to get that clean factory look. took a few hours but it was worth it.

right now i'm working on the suspension and need your guys’ help. i bought a set of 2017 kxf kyb a-kit forks from technical touch and thought i read somewhere that i could just press the old stem into the new clamps, but i was wrong. the diameter of the 2017 stem is slightly bigger. right now my plan is to turn down the old stem and make a sleeve for it. is this the best option or what would you guys recommend?
Progress has been slow lately because of school and work, but planning to finish the build in my Christmas break. Powdercoated the spring and cerakoted the shock body, also found out the bike has a Mikuni carb from a 2001 KX 125 so I had to return the rebuild kit.

Did you ever sort the fork issue? Ive got a 1999 lx250 and im looking to update the front end
used loctite 638 to glue in the stem. but havent got the time to rebuild the wheels so i dont know if the brakes line up. had to order a 2017 axle. i will keep you updated.
Build has been going slow.
Had to modify the front brake caliper to line up the wheel. Because of that i also have to make new spacers. Gona buy a new brake hose and going to route it the same way as the new bikes because of the fork protector. Outside of that is al small pieces and hope to have it finisched in the next couple of weeks because i also have to build a cr 125 1996 before april when the season starts.
