I was 16 or 17 the day I passed my old man. I was on a CR125, he was on an XR400 and in his early/mid 40s. It was in high speed trail that I had ridden a lot and I blew past him and rode away. We weren't racing or anything, I just felt like going fast.
Unfortunately when I looked back I didn't see him. I turned around and found him picking himself up off the ground and wincing. He crashed in a dried mud rutted up area and admitted that he had been trying to keep up. He wasn't hurt bad, but he hurt his shoulder and hit his head and freaked himself out. That might have been the last time we ever really went riding together

The track was groomed perfect and it rained very lightly on and off all day so never got dried out. I have never ridden a track that had so many usable lines that didn't get rutted out.
Our first time out I noticed my son was always about the same distance behind and stayed there. In the pits he was all bragging on how he kept up and wanted to go out together again. When we went out I decided to just get on it and leave him. Half a lap later he is still there. A lap later I went wide in a corner to let some faster riders by and my son went with them. It was on then and I was going to get him right back. Going up the stair case hill out of the valley he roosted me big time.
The first time getting painfully roosted by your own son after riding together since he was 5 on a perfect track was something that I will never forget.
We rode back and forth the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning till the blisters stopped us.
I hope he makes millions.
