Old School MX event in Houston

I also had a great time at the Rio reunion. It was well organizes, the food was good, and the old school bikes on the track brought back many memories. Talking with others about 70’s Rio days, “do you remember such and such”, conversations brought joy to my face. I have to say that I accomplished one of my childhood dreams of getting to shake the legend “Marty Smith’s” hand. I shared with him that he was my motocross idol since I first climbed on a bike and watched him on televisions “World wide of Sport”. I told him that I still have his poster displayed in my garage, and that as kids I did not play cowboys and Indian’s, but played chase as being Marty Smith and Roger Decoster. Marty shook my hand with interest and I could tell he was honored that he heard my truthful words. He even signed my Rio Reunion t-shirt which I will have framed and displayed by his poster. He is a true legend, an class act, and the motocross world is lucky to have had him in the sport. It was also good to meet up with Bobby Guidry, who was one of the fastest from the Golden Triangle era of Texas.
