Old bikes

What bikes stayed competitive the longest ? What got me thinking was a MXA article on used bikes. It was from spring of 91 and said a well maintained 87 cr250 would still dominate. I think about the 82 Rm 250 but wasn't that more of a bike that opened the flood gates, competitive to 84 probably. I don't know should be fun to hear. What does old mean - I don't know where to start but am stopping at USD forks I guess. Also mainly talking about 125 and 250. Big bore seems easy - 81 490.

I tend to think that if I put my mind to it I could take my old 92 YZ 250, stiffen the suspension up and be competitive at local races in the intermediate class as long as there wernt any huge leaps.

The 87 cr 125 was a good bike for a long time too. Probably the 96 cr 250 also.

A 1994 YZ250 all the way to the 2011 YZ250 could still be set up to run with today's bikes on an average track in the b/c or vet class. Motors are nearly identical throughout and with a little suspension tuning someone could make the older YZ's competitive today.

1981 Maico 490 with up-dated suspension on a outdoor track without Sx stuff-could still win!
