i have a 2013 kawasaki kx450f and i want to do a top and bottom end rebuild.
what parts need changing when you do a top and bottom end rebuild on a 4 stroke dirt bike.
i want to know specifically what parts i need to change so the bike is healthy and doesnt have any issues and i can ride it for long time without worrying.
Minimum (assuming normal hours for such a rebuild and not a failure of some kind).
-new piston/rings/wrist pin/bearing
-new bottom end bearings (crank, transmission, etc)
-check the head/valves/shims/clearances-if suspect, consider new valves and seats or a new head.
-new valve seals
-new timing chain and guide(s)
-new cam chain tensioner
-new or rebuilt crankshaft
-inspect oil pump, replace if suspect.
-inspect all critical clearances and dimensions, replace parts as warranted.
-new gaskets and seals. OE for at least the seals.
Remember, once you have gotten in this far, anything questionable should be replaced. You’d hate to get it back together only to start having shifting issues 5 rides down the road, etc.
thank you
You bet!
I forgot to mention, also check the cylinder coating for wear/chipping. If suspect, have someone like Millenium replate it. If you get your piston, rings, etc from them at the same time they’ll match it to the final hone size.
