First off, huge thanks again to all those that donated to help me in this. For those have that missed out on what I am doing. I am doing a ride with the Challenged Athletes Foundation that goes from San Francisco to San Diego over 7 days. 620 miles in 7 days by bicycle.

Today was day 1. Sorry, as of now I don't have any pics. If I come across some, I'll post them up. I'll also try and put something up each day. As long as I am not too dead. Today was great though. We started in down town San Fran, well i guess down town. At the Hyatt at Fishermans Wharf for those that know the area. Had a police escort out of town. Since I am one of the "challenged athletes" here I rode at the front through down next to the cops on motorcycles escorting us which is always fun. After the escort ended, things turned ugly pretty quickly. The ride is a 100 riders that each raise $10,000, hence the name "Million Dollar Challenge". There are a wide array of riders here. Some people just along for the ride enjoying it. Others are here to hammer.

I took off with the front group that started out with about 30 of us. Shortly after hitting the bottom of a climb, Devils Slide? One of the stronger riders here told me to go the front and turn it until he said stop. So, off I went. He kept yelling at me to ride harder till we got to the top. I figured the group was still there. Turns out there was only 3 of us left. The 3 of us rode together past most of the sag stops and made 1 stop to have some pics taken and grab lunch. Then regrouped with a few others and hammered it the rest of the way to Santa Cruz. I rolled in fourth rider to finish on the day. 86 miles in 4 hours 20 minutes. The first 10 miles we only rode about 10 mph. So, real ride speed for the day was around 23 or 24 mph. After sitting around eating lunch with the other riders as they rolled in, turns out I am the first "challenged" rider to ever make it in the front group on the ride here. Pretty cool.

A great ride with tons of cool people. Former NBA player Bill Walton? Is here riding with us. I got to meet Robin Williams at dinner last night. The ride rolls on tomorrow with another 86 miles from Santa Cruz to Big sur. Followed up by 120 miles on monday and another 120 on tuesday. Lets hope the legs hold up for the week.

Cycling is tough sport, great work.
Keep us posted on your progress.
I'm not challenged but sure couldn't ride those miles anymore.
