Gutted for our team and Musquin!!! Not acceptable for the world champ to have two DNFs and do what 5-6 laps. At Fermo the2011 EFI was looking underpowered but that was ok he's champ but why not use his proven bike for the MXDN.

"Marvin's Ktm broke in first moto while leading the lites and being 6th overall.

Right now, they repaired it and 15 mm before the start of 2nd moto, mechanics are not able to restart it!!

They run to the preparc with the bike in pieces and hope to start It there with 15 mm to go!!! :-((("

Nothing was done deliberately rest assured!

It's FACTORY RACING, & yes my friends, SH*T HAPPENS!!!!

I'm sure that they did in fact think that the EFI system would prove better at altitude.

Tony C's 350 ride was awesome........& yes EFI.

Max 's 450 ride was awesome ........& I think EFI as well.

At the FACTORY level things can be certainly bitchen at times that's true, yet they can also be a royal bitch at times as well.

Soon enough it'll be just a memory.............

Sometimes progress, change & moving forwards sucks!

And for Marvin, he'll be back!!!!!!!!!

How is this KTM's fault? Seems the team was doing all in its power ti fix the bike. Bikes do break down ya know.

Buddy had Ken got two DNF you would have been pissed and five laps completed only. As i said in my original post the bike is still being tested. Fermo was the first time out and didn't go great. And why did they wait until musquin had wrapped the title before debuting it because it wasn't 100%!! You don't take chances at the MXDN!

Anyway I wrote this at the end of second moto and France had too many bad starts to win

I know Roczen has been in fire last 3 or 4 GP's but yes at Ferno he passed MM and beat him by so much that the bike definitely could've been down on power,I feel pretty bummed for him as he was at the MXoN as a champ.

Shame France had some bad luck,effectively losing Pourcel,Musquin and Boog in the event as a whole,the more top guys there adds more to the event and we all love to see them race each other ,my money would have still been on USA but you get what I'm sayin,still an awesome day of racing !

It did seem a little odd to me that they didnt just run what Marvin had used all year (and beaten Ken by a lot of points with). The EFI bike didnt work for him at Fermo why risk it at the biggest race of the year. They can test all they want in the off season why do it there. Im not agreeing with the thread title necasarily but it seemed a weird decission from KTM and the outcome speaks for itself.

Maybe Marvin should of told the team he wanted his old bike for the race. Surely he has a say in it right ? It was looking so good for France early on in that first moto and I really did think it was going to their day.

Nevermind, they'll do it next year on home soil.

I was pissed evrytime Ken had a DNF in the GPs!
I still don't think KTM did anything to keep Marvin from finishing on purpose, but this thread might make people believe so.

Agree, with that Motodude,

I dont see it as KTMs fault, it was bad luck, plain and simple, luck plays a part at every MXdN, some times it gos your way, the other times it doesnt.

Not my opinion at all why on earth would they stop their mx2 champ don't think i implied this. But I do believe they should have been conservative and not use the EFI. If you listen to the French team manager it really sounds like their were doubts in the Musquin team that the bike was not ready... I think it's just marketing backlash

Well it's the first thing that comes to mind when you read the topic. I agree on being conservative and using a carb.

What about the spare bike? Every other factory rider had 2 bikes on hand, and I think Short used his spare for the 3rd moto. Instead of running to parc ferm with a bike in pieces, just grab the other one!


That was just stupid. They need to be prepared for situations like that.

I agree, it probably was all about marketing, especially now that KTM is making a big comeback in the States. Kinda backfired for them though, didn't it? (was EFI a good option in mile high city anyway?)

Musquin will do well here next year though. He kills it. Can't wait to watch him all year long.

EFI makes a lot of sense. When it works you get the right mixture no matter what the altitude or air temperature is (provided the programming is correct)
With a carburetor you have 3 fairly gross adjustments that overlap somewhat. You could have the bike dialed perfectly on Saturday and have it off on Sunday because the clouds came in and it is 20 degree cooler.
