1987 cr250 question

Edited Date/Time 1/25/2012 8:36pm
does anyone know if a 1987 cr250 jug will work on a 1986 cr250 case? the part numbers are different but power vave numbers (several of the main parts that i cross referenced) and the pv covers are same part numbers. I was hoping that the jug is the same and the part number just changed due to something minor like metal composition, exterior finish etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Do the motors use the same piston and con rod?
I think they are a very similar engine, but there easily could be a minor but important change.

yes it will fit and work. the bore and stroke is the same.I have a 1985 honda cr 250 and i put the 1987 jug on my 1985 bottom end all i had to do was use the 87 piston. and it works very well except in my case i gained 2ccs because my 85 jug was 246ccs were as the 87 jug is 249ccs.so if the 87 jug fits and works on my 85 i see no reason why it wont fit on your 86 ive heard the 86 jug had a better power band though. also i am going to send my whole engine to eric gore i understand he does something with the power valaves to gain more power. check out my bike on this same web site Ive found out a lot of the parts do enter-change my last mod will be the removable clutch cover. good luck
