My dad (now retired) was a contractor. I used to work for him during the summer breaks in school/college. We were doing a major remodel on a resort’s condos. Unfortunately, the structure of the bid, etc meant that they picked the subs, not us. We were only doing demo, framing, and finish work.

We came back one Monday morning to find that the plumbers had simply lopped the top plates of the interior walls on either side of any pipe that needed to go through, and used pipe protector plates to hold the (now separated) sections of interior wall together. Some were now only one stud wide. I wish I had taken pictures…

We used to get back charged 1K for each joist if our drill bit even touched it when drilling through the bottom plate to pipe the wall. That was in like 04. Couldn’t imagine the cost now.
