Hi, TIA I’m looking for any information anyone has on this pipe it is Engraved 02 SRT M. Would anybody know who’s bike this pipe may have come from originally?
The stamp reads “ 2002, Suzuki Racing Team, Motocross”
There is no “T1/T2/T3” after, so I would assume this is a race pipe, and not a test pipe.
They were not assigned to specific riders but rather the team “SRT”. It could have belonged to any of their 02 MX outdoor riders.
Suzuki Racing Team had two outdoor 250MX riders that year, Sean Hamblin and Travis Pastrana. Sean raced most of/all that season while Travis missed the first half and only raced partial 02 MX SZN. Because Sean saw so many more races that year, Statistically, it was probably on his bike the majority of its life. There is no way of knowing for sure who’s pipe, and it may have just as easily been swapped between bikes during tear down/assy, as pipes were not rider specific.
These pipes have tig brass brazed mounting points and flanges. The pipe is partially welded, buffed, then tig welded to finish it off and create a unique bluing. The mounts are stamped specific to team, rider, test/race. The PC works tag will not have a stamp. The Works tag is also held on with zinc brazing along with rear support. The inside of the pipes are smoothed/polished before final welding. Some utilized thicker guage steel for construction while others had an extra skin placed over the front particularly for outdoor season pipes that was also placed with zinc brazing. Pipes like these are extremely rare and we’re only available to true Factory/Works riders.
Each pipe was paired with a factory carbon Kevlar titanium stinger r-304. The silencers usually had TI mounts welded directly to stinger tip, and the carbon weave is unlike current TI-2. Final detail they used a white silicone for all ti silencers/transmission shafts to create a clean look.
Please post more pictures!! I’d love to see the rest and might be able to tell you more about it!
PS if you want to sell it blakebramble@gmail.com
Sean Hamlin 2002 Outdoor
Travis Pastrana 2002 Outdoor
Fortunately I picked up a frame from 2002 which still has the ama tech inspection sticker, even though the numbers have been scratched. The engine I have had a factory top end with SRT stamped on the head and barrel, I’m slowly accumulating parts, I wish I had the carbon Kevlar stinger but I do have a shorty stinger, factory gear shifter, factory clutch perch, a kit suspension. Dsp frame guards and magneto cover. Magnesium sand cast clutch cover and works linkage knuckle, unfortunately no link arms.
