Ktm exc 200 not hitting power bands properly

Just bought this bike should have listened to the voice in my head when he said that I couldn’t text ride it to much because of neighbours but the bike starts first kick and rides fine but got the bike home and went for a rio and first and second power band just seem to top out or not exist it sounds like a 4stroke until 3 it kinda kicks in then the rest seem

I watched a lot of reviews on this bike and it seems like it’s a beast in all gears people wheeling all over the place in low gears

The bike just doesn’t seem to have much pull untill later gears maybe power valve not adjusted right and it’s opening to late. I used to have a ktm 125 and it seemed to have a lot more pull my 200exc doesn’t really sound like a 2stroke untill it’s in 4th or 3rd

Any help is appreciated

1st things id check are reeds (chipped, not sealed, jetting (too rich), power valve screw (too tight).

Chances are they did the top end and messed with the powervalve. 2 things to check. Just in front of the clutch is the powervalve adjuster, if you twist it too far out you can mess up the adjuster. There is 4 balls in there that go up a ramp, when you back it off too far those balls can fall out of their groove and the powervalve won't work. Pull the clutch and side cover off and you can see what I mean. Also there is a rack and pinion system to control the PV inside the cover on the cylinder. If you don't time it correctly the PV won't work correctly either. Gotta line up all the dots and lines and make sure it functions smoothly.

If you look at #23 - 52 that is the adjuster I am talking about. You can see those 4 balls that can fall out the grooves.

Cheers dude big thanks if the power valve is not adjusted correctly can it not the bands in some gears and not others

I can hold the throttle wide open in gears one and two and it sounds like a rev limiter/ spluttering but 3rd 4th 5th and 6th are fine

There is a window on the left side of the cylinder where you can watch the PV operate while reving the bike

But getting a new to you bike, I’d go through the carb, clean, JD Jet kit, and if you Google “Langston setting”, you’ll learn everything there is about the PV on the old 125/200 KTM engines. 200’s have much more bottom end than 125’s so the Langston setting is far later opening than it needs to be

New plug, fresh gas, repack the silencer, clean air filter do all the minor things to get the bike to a baseline
