Freestone: From the Fence

Not too much to say about today, I didn't get to see too much. One thing I took notice to in the pits, though, was the abundance of privateers. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. That is, is it because there are less rides available, or are more pro's just wanting to race? My eyes just felt deceived to see privateers occupying such a large portion of the pits. It was puzzling. Not nearly as puzzling as the racing, though. What a weird day!
Yes, I had my predictions, but they were blown out of the water further than Davi Millsaps is from a 2011 factory Honda contract. Well, I guess I shouldn't speak on that subject. I could be wrong for all I know. Anyway...I didn't know what to think of the racing today. The only thing I've learned to expect this year is to not expect anything!There were lead changes in every moto, pretty cool statement if you ask me, also shows the outstanding depth of out current talent and amateur system. Speaking of coming up through the amateur ranks, the rookie Tomac impressed me both in good and bad ways. I could not believe his smooth style and sheer, deceptive speed. I neither could believe his anchor dropping in the second moto. He obviously had some issues, and I hope he gets said issues sorted out to make this championship a nail-biter all the way to Pala. And he most likely will. He is the real deal. Not that anyone is arguing against that.
As stated earlier, I had my predictions. I thought Dungey was going to have a pretty good rebound performance from his less-than-stellar Hangtown ride. But, that being said, I did not expect the dominant 1-1 weekend that he had. Major props to him. Maybe the right bike set-up is more important than I thought. Alessi shocked me. His extremely uncharacteristic bad start in moto 1 had me thinking I was delusional. He crashed in both moto's (based on the announcements) and could not work his way through the pack. I think the second moto would have been even a little more interesting than it was if Mike hadn't fallen. Kyle Regal was absolutely on fire. He rode an amazing race that last moto and never gave up. Passing guys like Reed, Shorty, and Metty is something to be proud of. Good to see the local boy having “one of those days”. Metty's holeshots were very impressive, and I'm wondering if he is thinking he should have moved up sooner.
All in all it was a fun day. Nothing like the great outdoors.
