My son is trying to get this bike back running. He picked it up cheap because the previous owner couldn’t get running. The guy said it was recently rebuilt and from we’ve seen it looks like it has been. Problem is it will start up fine on first or second kick, and idles fine but when give it gas it just sputters and backfires. He’s went through the carb and cleaned everything out several times and confirmed jets are correct (stock sizes) and the diaphragm pump is good and functional. When it idles it sprays oil from the breather and we’ve noticed it’s pushing air out of the side cover hole where the stator wires are coming through. We think the stator is aftermarket, likely a cheap one from the way it looks. All valves are shimmed and check out in spec.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

That doesn’t sound good. Is there any way to test for this, or just have to tear it down?
The 2005 had uneven cases and care was needed ro torque down the cylinder without it pulling air.
