Has anyone seen the new track that is getting built on the south side of highway 26 near Jackson school road?  It’s right off the highway l. Anyone know who is building it?

Yeah, I've stopped by a few times and talked to the builder. I live about 15 minutes away. Frankly, the owners aren't moto and don't have a clue what it takes to build and run a public track. I don't expect it will come to anything. My son is supposed to test ride it for them soon. The initial build was so extreme that it was unsafe to ride, and that's what we told them. They've tamed it down, but there's no watering system so it's really not rideable as is. Plus the fill (from old Intel construction work) it's built on is full of junk. Underneath all that is great topsoil and clay, but it'd cost a fortune to get down to that and pull it out for the track surface.

Sounds like the crap Hannegan got from one of Wilder’s road projects in the late 90’s…”prime dirt” turned out to be full of asphalt chunks the size of grapefruits.

Interesting. I was also asked to test it out. We should compare notes when we’re done

They said they planned on a few events a year. That’s not my definition of public. I’ve no idea what their permitting is or insurance or any of that. Like I said, it looks like a big nothing samwich to me so far. I hope I am wrong!

We sure do need a track on the west side of Portland. I’ve looked into some land for it but it’s not panned out. Running a track the right way takes a massive personal and financial commitment.

Did anyone else see the message on here that got deleted?  It was a google map of the track asking if this is the place I was talking about and I replied back and said yes and now it’s gone.  Weird…

Hammer, have some faith! Even if it’s a private track it was pretty cool seeing it from 26 for someone to enjoy!

I'm stopping by Saturday: builder said it's about ready to do a full lap, minus some berm work. I told him to get me a tracked skid steer and some water and I'll build them. I've done quite a few at other tracks nearby.

I stopped by today and walked it. The dozer guy was there making the last section to connect the full track. It's a BIG layout, and fast. I'll guess a 1:45-2:00 lap time. It still needs a ton of work - the jump faces need cleaned up, some of the faces are way too big for the length of the jump, several jumps land to flat and need fixed, and the berms aren't built at all. Plus I saw no sign of any way to water, yet. There is a skid steer on site, so if they get some water I'll be there next weekend helping clean it up. It's barely rideable as is - all dust right now, and nothing ripped or tilled. There is a lot of potential, so if they are really serious, and take their time, next Spring it could be pretty decent.

Ok, a lot of work has been done in the last month, and we’ve now test ridden this track twice. I just spent a few hours building berms and cleaning up faces while my boy rode and gave feedback to the crew. We need a water truck (or 2) and we need to rip it all deep and clean up the dirt a bit (rocks and crap) but the layout is long and fun and we are building with safety in mind.
The owner is actually considering trying to take it public, and I’m gonna see how we can work with the city to make it happen. The place has a lot of potential and done right could be very good. I met the only neighbor today and he seemed ok and not against the idea. Still a lot of work needed and it won’t be ready for an opener until the spring. But, given a year or 2 and I can see it being a truly excellent place to ride. The start straight (2nd photo) will be killer  IMG 5871 0.jpeg?VersionId=E9m2NvLH7S4uVIIMG 5872 0IMG 5858.jpeg?VersionId=3c1nzdXgPdz9q T3z3WjkIMG 5857
