55 years old. Tore all 4 rorator cuff tendons. Axillary nerve isn't working .Doc says fusion a real possabilty. If nerve can be fixed i will likely get a reverse shoulder replacement. Thanks in advance.
Dude, that's not good.
There are a few of us out there that have endured a massive tear of the rotator, it's a bitch. Would have been better to have broken bones for sure.
I have ROM but not more than 65-70% and consider myself lucky. And it's difficult to build and maintain muscle in that shoulder.
Nerve damage is a funny thing, and the human body is amazing in its ability to heal. Help it heal, find the best surgeon, do those things you are supposed to do, don't rush it and best of luck towards a great recovery.
You're a young man, you'll need that shoulder for years to come. Keep us posted.
Ugh. I had a surgery to tighen up the tissues but thankfully, no tears to the tendons. My surgery, although far less serious, was a complete success and my recovery was better than the doctor prepared me for. (Given, I was 33 at the time.) Don't underestimate your ability to heal up; I'd say go with the least-restrictive surgery possible. If you cannot heal up properly, they can always fuse the joint later.
I've had the weaver-dunn procedure done on my right shoulder eons ago (1994). Not sure if it's quite the same thing. Landed on it hard ripping the shoulder down and all the ligaments holding it in place. It was classed as a very severe separated shoulder. Original Doc thought it was dislocated due to it hanging so low until the xrays proved otherwise. Then he didn't touch it and sent me to Ortho Doc. After the procedure I only have the one relocated ligament holding it in place. Many months of physio later I could do pushups, weight training and racing moto without issue. Just gotta keep up with muscle strength. It is sloppy and pops out if I place my hand behind my back, so I don't do that
but it works. Hopefully you fully recover from the challenge placed in front of you.
Was too busy thinking my right shoulder might be the same thing. Should have thought of my left. 1997 I only had a 2nd degree separation on that one. The doc repaired ligaments and stuck a screw in it for six weeks to prevent movement and help with healing process. Said it was like a fusion as I'd have limited mobility until removed. I was ordered to only move my arm from side up to horizontal and no higher. After screw removed I was good to go for additional rehab. Perhaps that's the limited mobility one could expect from a fusion but not sure. Either way good luck to you sir!

Thanks every one. Im accepting of never racing again.I do hope to ride some offroad and on the highway again. Its been a tough 5 weeks. I also ruptured both achilles in the the same crash.
geez buddy, you got roughed up! keep your mind right too, it's a road ahead of you but you'll be ok.
No fuse for me but I'm on week 8 of my second cuff w/anchor surgery (6years apart). And like you I'm accepting of never racing again. Definitely not stopping riding tho. Good luck on your recovery man and know you have many moto brothers here to help you thru this little hiccup.
Hang in there !
Thanks mudd!
