I just got back from Florida. I was down for 4 days @ Skytop MX Ranch, 100 acre strictly Private Motocross training facility.
Anywho ,I had a 3rd gear get off in some deep sand rollers. Went down kinda hard. I was not knocked out nor did I realize I hit my head at all. When I was trying to get to my feet and the air back in my lungs. Some clear fluid started flowing from my nose for maybe 20 seconds.
When I got back to PA. I was in some serious pain and coughing blood.
So I went to the Doctor. Got a CAT Scan. Come to find out I have a partially collapsed lung and a small fracture to my skull behind my sinuses. Apparently the fluid gushing from my nose was Cerebrospinal fluid.
Definition:
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), Liquor cerebrospinalis, is a clear bodily fluid that occupies the subarachnoid space and the ventricular system around and inside the brain.
More specifically the CSF occupies the space between the arachnoid mater (the middle layer of the brain cover) and the pia mater (the layer of the meninges closest to the brain). Moreover it constitutes the content of all intra-cerebral (inside the brain, cerebrum) ventricles, cisterns and sulci (singular sulcus), as well as the central canal of the spinal cord.
The doctor said, if I would have went to the hospital right away. They would have kept me in for a few days of observation. But I was already past the few days so no hospital stay for me.
My doctor’s advice was to avoid sticking anything up my nose or sniffing anything or blowing my nose to avoid infection.
Great!
Facts: I do not wear a Leatt brace. I always wear all my gear ( TLD SE ) , I had a private lesson with Garry Semics 1 hour after the crash.
Did anyone else ever experience anything like this?

I hope the doctor is planning to see you back and follow up.
You don't want to be riding any more until the fracture is healed (figure a couple of months).
The Leatt wouldn't have done anything for this. Perhaps a different helmet, though I'm not convinced that even expensive helmets would do any differently since they are all just styrofoam in a hard shell.
I do have a follow up appointment next week.
His guess for total time to heal was 6 weeks. Do you think it will take longer?

Actually, depending on the exact location of the fracture and mechanism of the injury, a Leatt might have prevented the fracture. This likely occurred via a coup/contracoup mechanism, and by limiting the range of motion of the c-spine, the forces may very well have been minimized with a Leatt.
Did you see a neurosurgeon, and is that who is following you for the injury? I'm a little surprised they didn't go ahead and put you on prophylactic antibiotics for 10 days or so as a precaution....he's giving you good advice on avoiding nasal trauma/nasal mucosal disturbances.
About 10 years ago, my brother crashed and suffered a basilar skull fracture (which is technically what you have) and didn't call me until 4-5 days later to complain that his nose wouldn't stop running. Recognizing what was going on, I immediately sent him to the ED for a CT scan, which showed the fracture. Like you, he wasn't admitted, but we did put him on a course of Ab's.
6 weeks is conservative. If you're 20 years old, that sounds about right. If you're 40 or older, I'd go 8-10 to insure it's well healed.

LMAO, great comparisn! Seriously though, that is one awesome looking race track. i'd pay for a private lesson just to ride there
It was probably a reflection of that gear your wearing that caused the wreck though.
even though they are made in the same factory as my V3's.
