Amateur racing flagging

I will add that the example crash was almost 20 years ago. And that track has improved in everyway.    

I know it must be very difficult to get people that are good at flagging and can stay focused like You need to be. That was why I suggested rotating the flaggers. When I'm at a race taking photos it helps me stay alert to keep moving around the track. Giving me a new section every so often. And I thought that might be a good idea in some cases.

I know it can be a very demanding job when done well. And just like anything, some people are better than others at doing it. I am VERY happy for everybody that has never had an issue with a flagger. 

Flagger issues are synonymous as AMA is with supporting the sport.  Standing in the hot sun on some random dirt mound for how many hours a day blows.  It seems everyone endlessly laments rider safety and more flaggers, but at the same time don't want to spend any money on it.  Make flaggers comfortable when they're not flagging, or even when they are.  Making simple elevated shaded perches that can fit two people and provide some chairs, maybe some that can spin 360º.   It'd be easier to convince two people to hang out for 1/2 day than it would be for just one...if they were comfortable.

No solution, but at least we're trying.  We designed and built these remote operated strobes to ASSIST (not replace) our flaggers.
