As the OP of the thread, hooray for you! My experience was more up and down than everyone elses, but mine should have been done 4 years earlier than it was. Best of luck to you!

Preamble: Football, State level high school power-lifter(1150 totals), avid runner/road bike for years(till 40)(back numbness)(biathlon), rec soccer.....years of mx(15-50). UPS delivery driver 15 yrs. UPS 18 wheeler 20 yrs.

Recently retired(60). Became a substitute teacher. Taught PE a lot. One day I coached soccer and actively played.......woke up the next day and my hip felt like an icepick was being jammed in and twisted.

So, that was 6 months ago......if I pop 6-8 ibuprofen a day.....I can function. I limp all the time. There's no way I can kickstart a motorcycle. Swinging a leg over anything(say my 1400 Kaw Concours) is unbearably painful. Any movement has to be carefully considered. Oddly-I can get down and up from the toilet without mostly any pain. That's good I guess. My sleep is interrupted all night until I can find a position with relatively little pain.

I started a new job(aircraft mechanic)(yes, it was difficult to crawl around airplanes and not cry out in pain sometimes) and was on probation for 6 months. Meaning, going to the Dr. or even considering what a hip therapy or surgery would entail......I "couldn't go". Sounds stupid but here we are.

Went to my GP and an x-ray was ordered. Revealing arthritis and bone spurs. I have an upcoming visit with an orthopedic specialist...this is a month away. Playing soccer made me think I had torn something because basically lifting and swinging my leg is unbearable(soccer movement). Oddly, I can mow my yard etc. without too much trouble. But then swinging a leg onto the lawn tractor is dicey.

Besides the job thing, I really thought my hip would get better. My knee was very sore after the soccer incident and got better and pain free in about a week. I thought the hip would too. I've never experienced any pain like this ever. For all the mileage my limbs have been through....I feel fortunate to have lasted this long. Keeping in mind I've never broken a bone or seriously crashed in mx.

My gut tells me a replacement is in my future. Not looking for sympathy, but my experience sounds very familiar to this thread. I do hope that there is a tear or something "simple"....or that a steroid shot or similar will "fix things".

BIL and good friend have had hip replacements, both still ride.  My FIL had one at 79 and was out pushing snow 4 weeks later.  Hip replacement seems to be a quick recovery and pretty simple procedure.

Most people have a good experience and can only say good things. It definitely sounds like you could use some help. Follow instructions for aftercare and good luck!
