I came across this article from Timing Gate. They claim in their newest blog that the importance of a good start has increased massively. Good stuff for discussion.

What you guys think? Seeing the dominance of Prado and Lawrence this year and taking the holeshot so often..

Poll

Importance of a good start has increased massively

Where is the "A good start has always been important" button?

A good start is more important if You are not Jett Lawrence or Chase sexton and You want to try and finish in front of them.  Those 2 seem to find their way to the front . Jett has gotten the start so often though. And anytime somebody winns every moto, I would say that starts are not as important for that rider as they are for the others.

I have not watched enough MXGP to say anything about Prado.

As far as the results at the nationals in the 450 class. It seemed like it was pretty consistently the same guys in similar spots by the end of the year. With starts making little difference on those results.

Starts in the 250 class seemed to make a bigger difference.
