Don’t know if this is the right place to ask this but I broke my tibia/fibula and got compartment syndrome about 2 months ago and had to have a Fasciotomy Down both sides of my leg and a Tibia nail placed and was wondering from anyone that’s had the nail about how long it took to get back to moto and if the rod caused any problems or is it worth it to get it removed before riding again
Snap!
Did the same thing 6 years ago. Mine broke nearer the ankle and I have the IM nail as you have shown. Stopped me riding for a year. Couldn’t drive for 12 weeks and self employed so it wasn’t good. Guessing you are young and will fix quicker, I was 52. Plenty of good food, and rest, don’t rush it. Must have eaten a field of Broccoli at that time. Heal fast.
Like you I worried about the nail and asked about removal in case of another break. The consultant pushed it back for later consideration, but I don’t think it is practical anyway due to bone calcification to titanium. I accepted it. Compartment syndrome was a concern due to the heavy impact but I thankfully got away with it, instead I developed an infection at the time which wasn’t helpful and also an issue with what looked like fracture blisters (possibly infection related). Had coin sized blister popping up every day for nearly 6 months.
6 years on, my only real issue is the screw heads on the inside of the shin can rub internally when wearing a tight boot.
I’ve had a tibial nail for the last 25 years. I’ve never had any real issues, although I can feel the screws under my skin.
Now my ankle that’s another story, should’ve let them fuse or amputate it.
I'd think you'd get a lot more answers in "moto"
