I was partial to my late 90’s RM 125’s, but like previously mentioned. Parts availability might become an issue. I’d take a YZ. Can’t go wrong the suspension on 06+ Yamaha’s.

I recently picked up a 2022 KTM 125 and have been loving it. I was a little worried being 195lbs on a 125 and not riding one for about 20 years, but so far I've been really impressed. My other bike is a 22 KTM 250 SX, so the chassis feels very similar between the two bikes, although the 125 handles a little better overall. I'm partial to the KTMs, but honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of the newer 125s.

I liked my tc250 a lot, but I did have to be a little cautious on it because I'm not exactly skilled haha. It had good smooth power by the time I'd been through the carb and thrown a silencer on it, but it was still a fast bike.

I'm still kinda working on the logic it'll be more fun to ride a 'slow' bike 'fast' (both relative terms, for me) than a fast bike slow.

At the moment I'm having more fun on it than my 250, but that could just be because it's my newest toy. I'm definitely a little faster on the 250, but not by much. The 125 handles a little better (I'm running the same re-valved suspension on both), but the power difference is really noticeable of course. On the 250 I can take more insides, whereas on the 125 I have to take more outsides or middle lines in order to keep my speed up in order to hit the same jumps. I just wish I picked one up sooner as I had been going back and forth the last couple of years and finally took the plunge a little over a month ago.

I think I speak for all of vital on this one…would like to see a video of you ripping one of these fast cr125 to see if they are what you claim! I’ve had Honda 125’s in the past and unimpressed.

To answer the OP, I’d go with a new yz125 and lean the jetting way out on half c12. They run way rich stock but very good when jetted correctly.

I can beat a dead horse with the best of them. Sometimes if you hit it hard enough you can get it to move.IMG 0956.JPG?VersionId=jteTpa

125s are a lot of fun to ride, if you’re in the right mood / frame of mind.  In my opinion they are way harder work than a 250 2 stroke, just because of the lack of torque.  I probably ride mine 2-3 times a year, just when the time is right.  I imagine more modern 125/ 150s are vastly improved. Mine is an 05 RM.

Can’t beat the fun factor but if you’re having an off day they can be deflating to ride unless you’re 9 stone and full of youthful energy!  Have fun though mate whatever you decide to get ✊🏼

Thanks man, I appreciate hearing the real world negatives as well as positives 👍 Certainly not 9 stone here and, even more certainly, no youthful energy haha 🤣

Every time I start a 125/150 and ride around the yard, I feel something similar to youthful energy for the next couple of hours and tell myself I need to buy one 🙂

Fingers crossed it's not a total bust, but generally speaking I'm all about making bad decisions, so at least it's business as usual if it is!

Haha I didn’t mean to be a downer about it, they are great fun even now.  And if you grew up riding them they are the closest thing to feeling like you’re in the schoolboy class again!  I’m sure you won’t regret it 👍🏼
