You would need a dedicated Apple Watch app to do that. http://www.workoutdoors.net/ seems similar to what you asking for? If for riding/racing, I don't believe anyone offers the live view on the watch.
Funny this thread came back up, I just got an apple watch for my birthday yesterday. I'm wanting to use a Heart rate monitor chest strap to monitor my HR on my rides. Any suggestions on which one to get that works with an apple watch?
Yeah thats what i am looking for is a dedicated app for this. Will give work outdoors a shot on my next off road ride and see how it does. Have a feeling it will be lacking on having the actual trails mapped but we will see. Just wish OnX would offer the app on the watch.
Anyone got any suggestions on mounting the watch somewhere besides my wrist and the bars? On the two stroke, the vibration is pretty bad and the watch is just getting shaken so badly I do not want to do that. I do not want to run a crossbar type bar either. outside of a custom-ish bad pad mount, I'm open to suggestions prior to getting too innovative.

Maybe get a Polar H10? It can record heart rate without a device nearby, then you can upload it after your session. If GPS is also a concern, then perhaps an XGPS160 as well. Either way you're able to ditch the watch while on the bike. Obviously these solutions suggest spending money, so apologies if that is not an option.
I have an H10 for the fitness portion but yes I have a pacer for my marathon training. I just don't want anymore devices lol. I'm thinking about just making a small pouch for the pacer. I can stick it in the key pocket of my thor pants but i don't always wear them.
I have no problem with wearing the watch on the bike for offroad rides. I have a stand alone app on the apple watch that I absolutely love even over the garmin and polar metrics for recording my HR, training and rides. My only gripe is that I cant use OnX on the watch and when we need to check the maps on long rides I have to pull my phone out of my hydration pack and check the map where as my buddy who uses a garmin watch in the same way has the ability to see the gps trail map right on his watch mid ride. If i could do that with the apple watch ultra (Even if its running a separate app from the fitness metrics of the ride) then i would want nothing more out of my ultra.
