After watching last night’s race and thinking back to past years of the sport and sort of the changing of the guard, it reminded me of 1989 when you’ve had Johnson and Wardy battling it out for the last four years and trading championships in sx.
And then Johnson breaks his navicular after I think it was 4/5 rounds? and Stanton goes on to win the chip’. He proceeds to win 3 in total and battle JMB before McGrath started his reign as most of you know
so much more than likely changed within the confines of the sport last night.
- does Eli retire
- if he does, where does Webb end up now
- the pressure and intensity of what has been laid on Sexton was written all over his face at the press conference, he had a 1,000 yard stare, and I’d be doing just about the same in his shoes.
- we missed out on Eli vs. Sexton vs. Ferrandis vs. Jett outdoors
- guys like Barcia, Anderson, Roczen to an extent, maybe AC, and even Webb start to think, “I mean all he was doing was pumping a rhythm section and now he can’t walk for 3 months minimum. It’d be nice to escape this sport with what’s left of my knees.”
That happens when you see a guy with a #1 on his bike goes down, imo. Wether it’s by coincidence or by mental design, when this has happened in the past the person in question’s competitors I have found are quick to follow.
im just so curious to see what transpires within the rumor mill these next few weeks and what this next race is going to be like, and I wonder if the Lawrence’s race the big bike class, that’d be wild
Storbeck landed on Johnson at gatorback national
Exactly, some weird thing befalls the reigning champ and then this new era is suddenly upon us in a way we didn’t expect
Rj was poised to be a rider that would have dominated the sport at the time. He was so fast, so strong, and was having fun.
at the time nobody would have predicted that incident at gatorback would pretty much end his career.
I was so excited to see that battle this summer. That’s gonna go down as a historical bench racing matchup at this point.

I know, it would’ve been something, add in AP, AC feeling good about himself, Anderson and Barcia coming back at some point, and maybe Webb near the midway point of the series and it would’ve been interesting for sure
What’s the landscape even looking like in the 450 class next year now? Any estimate I give of anyone‘s ability to be competitive is generous at best and just my two cents
1(23) - Sexton (I’d say chase has 8-10 years of being a top guy, that’s in it, left in him)

3 - Tomac (honestly I’m doubting he comes back)
7 - AP (3-8)
9 - AC (1-5)
12 - McElrath (2-5)
14 - Ferrandis (2-5)
15 - Wilson (retiring I think right, not sure if I remember that right)
17 - Savatgy (2-5)
18 - Jett (with his age and the sport potentially changing I could see Jett riding until he was 31/33 and being competitive at that age. But as we have seen that’s just if’s and maybe’s. So I’d say 8-12 more years of the Oz)
21 - Anderson (2-3)
25 - Musquin (is Marv done?)
27 - Stewart (2-4)
28 - Craig (2-5)
32 - Cooper (5-10 cooper is a sleeper tbh)
51 - Barcia (2-4)
94 - Roczen (1-4)
96? - Hunter (5-8 I see his window being a little shorter, but still at the same level as Jetts as far as its potential heights. But not even sure if he’ll be 450’ for SX in 24)
Add in vets like Bloss, Friese maybe, the Hill bro’s, Clason, Noren and others as well
In a few seasons it’ll potentially just look like
Sexton, the Lawrence brothers, AP, JCoop, maybe the old guard of Roczen/Barcia/JA21 are still around but doubting it, Hampshire, Forkner, J. Mart, Shimoda, are all bound to move up at some point as well. maybe you see some semblance of Savatgy, McElrath, Hill, Bloss, out there still. Idk should be interesting
